‘Friends’ Chandler Bing Fame, Matthew Perry Was the Only Actor to Have a Special Privilege on the Sets

Since 1994, Friends has been a home for millions of people. The iconic show
introduced the world to 6 best friends who went through life together and became
the viewers’ family as well. But one of them left the others behind. No one told
them that life was going to be this way, but it was. The news of Matthew Perry
passing away broke countless hearts of fans and his colleagues. While the entire
world is praying for the actor’s peace, did you know that he had certain
privileges?

The Chandler Bing fame actor was the only actor to have had a special privilege
on the sets of the ’90s sitcom because of his unique qualities.

SPECIAL PRIVILEGE MATTHEW PERRY HAD ON THE SETS OF FRIENDS

The NBC show was famous for the portrayal of warmth in relationships between
friends and family. And Chandler Bing’s witty remarks added a touch of comedy to
the emotional rollercoaster of the story. However, a lot of what Chandler spoke
came directly from Matthew Perry himself. Apparently, he was the only actor
among all 6 to be allowed to sit with the writers. Because of his legendary
wits, he got a special place in the director’s heart as well.

The director of the show would often use Perry’s gags and suggestions in the
scenes. Although the writers did an amazing job at writing brilliant scripts,
Perry’s input was also extremely important. There are several instances where
the 17 Again actor improvised even while filming a scene. This was so as Perry
felt a strong connection to Chandler Bing, making it easy for him to make those
improvisations.

During his interview with Tom Power, Perry opened up about how he got the
character. When the auditions were happening for the show, the late actor
actually helped his friend, Craig Bierko to get the role. However, feeling
extremely close to the character, Perry decided to give it a shot and went in
for an audition and the rest is history. But despite earning global fame for
this remarkable role, Matthew Perry did not want to be remembered as Chandler
Bing only.

THE FRIENDS ACTOR WANTED THE WORLD TO REMEMBER HIM OTHER THAN CHANDLER BING

The Numb actor had been open about his struggles with addiction, drug abuse, and
unhealthy habits. During his conversation with Tom Power, he spoke openly about
his hope of creating a lasting memory in fans’ hearts. He admitted to being
remembered as someone who lived well, loved well, and was a seeker. Despite
Chandler Bing being a tremendous part of his life, Perry wanted people to
remember him as someone who wanted to help people.
