For the first time in over two years, Fox has approved a live-action comedy series. Mammoth, created by Emmy-winning Modern Family creator and executive producer Christopher Lloyd and writer/executive producer Danny Zuker, has received a series order from the network for the 2027–2028 season, per Deadline. Fox Entertainment Studios is producing the show, which is based on the same-titled sitcom on BBC Two. BBC Studios Los Angeles is executive producing.

Coach Tony Mammoth, a high school gym instructor with an enormous personality, is the main character of the story. During a ski trip in 1983, he is buried by an avalanche and frozen in time. Four decades later, he awakens with the conviction that the world has altered needlessly. He still drives his beloved Trans-Am and has a Burt Reynolds mustache. When he goes back to his previous employment, he discovers that the relationships, laws, and reality of today hardly match those of the time he left behind.

A certain energy is brought to the screen by Tony Mammoth. He feels that decades ago, he discovered what it meant to be a man. Now, that self-assurance clashes with a culture that functions differently. Without relying on simple gags, the scenario allows Lloyd and Zuker to examine generational conflict, based on the description of the show provided in the exclusive report by Deadline.

The Modern Family duo also gave their insights into what the viewers can expect from the show and the titular character Tony Mammoth.

Discussing the premise of the new comedy series, co-creator Christopher Lloyd described the titular character, Tony Mammoth, as a man who genuinely believes he mastered manhood the first time around, calling his newfound reality the ultimate wake-up call in an otherwise flawless life. Lloyd noted that while Mammoth is charming, wildly self-assured, and hopelessly out of step with the times, his many blind spots ultimately make him impossible not to root for.

Echoing those sentiments, executive producer Danny Zuker added that Mammoth receives the rare second chance many people wish for, only to discover that his old-school bravado no longer matches his current reality. Zuker highlighted the character's shameless confidence, his fascination with a world he barely recognizes, and the big heart hidden beneath it all, concluding that while Mammoth "is a lot," they cannot wait to introduce him to Fox audiences.
