40 Years After Release, Hollywood's Most Iconic Coming-of-Age Story Hits Cinemas Once Again

Sometimes, reliving nostalgia is far more appealing than venturing into a new experience. The familiar memory makes one all warm and fuzzy inside, invoking emotions that have long lain dormant. This is exactly why the trend to re-release classics has been a hot trend these days.
This tradition, however, is not a new one. It is just that it is more frequent nowadays. The last year alone saw a massive increase in the number of re-releases and movies like Jaws (1975), The Breakfast Club (1985), Toy Story (1995), Apollo 13 (1995), Black Swan (2010), etc.
This year too, there will be a long list and a huge crowd of takers. One of them is going to be this iconic tale that influenced an entire generation.

Relive the magic of the classic that shaped a generation
One of the best works of writer Stephen King and director Rob Reiner, Stand by Me has a delicate soul that centers around friendship. On the occasion of its 40th anniversary, the movie will be released on March 27th for just a week. A limited-period opportunity for fans to experience the brilliance of this masterpiece.
The movie is based on the King’s novella The Body, and remains one of his few works with a lighter theme, but hard-hitting emotionally. All the actors starring in the film - Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman, Jerry O'Connell, and Kiefer Sutherland - were all exceptional in their roles, which made the movie even more engrossing.
Columbia Pictures could not have picked a better time - the film will be celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, and fans are grief-stricken with the recent passing of Rob Reiner. This is the perfect time to let them revisit the charm and finesse of one of Reiner’s best works.
While the re-release is largely for the fans of the work, it might also find a new audience who might be wondering about the story of the film.
The beautiful plot of the movie
The story revolves around four 12-year-olds from Castle Rock, Oregon. One day, they decide to go on a quest to find the missing dead body of a teenager. But things do not go the way they wanted or even hoped for, and they find themselves in big trouble.
The protagonist of Stand By Me, Gordie LaChance (Wil Wheaton), is a budding writer who finds out about a dead body discovered in the woods next to some railroad lines from his closest friend Vern (Jerry O'Connell). They both decide to go track down the body with their other two friends - Chris Chambers (River Phoenix) and the unpredictable Teddy Duchamp (Corey Feldman).
