Vasana Montgomery made headlines after two of her old social media posts containing racial slurs resurfaced. In one video, she is heard using the N-word, while in another, she raps along to a song that contains the slur. Days after the controversy erupted and her removal from the show, Montgomery shared a statement on social media.

"I want to address a couple videos from my teen years that have recently resurfaced," she wrote on her IG story. “In those videos, I used a racial slur. There is no excuse for it, and I am deeply sorry. I am embarrassed and disappointed by my words."

She further added, “I believe people should be held accountable for their actions, but I also believe in growth, learning, and becoming better. To anyone I hurt or disappointed, I am truly sorry.”

Now, this is not the first time Love Island has removed a cast member following a controversy. The show's network, Peacock, previously removed Yulissa Escobar during Season 7 following a controversy over Escobar using a racial slur. While these are some of the wrong reasons for which the show made headlines, the reality dating series remains one of the most talked-about and watched shows on television.
