Ever since Daniel Craig's final outing as James Bond, speculation over the next actor to inherit the iconic tuxedo has refused to settle down. While there is currently no confirmed actor attached to the role of 007, one major piece of the puzzle is already in place: Denis Villeneuve has been confirmed as the director of the next Bond film. With casting discussions continuing behind the scenes, several names have emerged as leading contenders to become cinema's next secret agent.

From rising British stars to established leading men, there are five actors most frequently, and increasingly being linked to becoming the next James Bond.

1. Callum Turner

Among all the rumored contenders, Callum Turner has emerged as one of the strongest frontrunners. The British actor is best known for Masters of the Air, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, and The Boys in the Boat. His combination of action experience, classic British charm, and growing international profile has made him a favorite among Bond watchers.

Turner's name has repeatedly appeared near the top of industry rankings and betting odds, with some reports even claiming he has been among the most seriously considered candidates. However, no official confirmation has been made by Amazon MGM or the Bond producers. When asked directly about the rumors, Turner has largely avoided giving definitive answers, keeping speculation alive rather than shutting it down.

2. Jack Lowden

The Scottish actor's stock has risen dramatically in recent months thanks to renewed Bond speculation. Best known for Slow Horses, Dunkirk, and War & Peace, Lowden already has experience playing a British intelligence officer through his role as River Cartwright in Apple's acclaimed spy series. Recent reports fueled speculation after broadcaster Richard Osman claimed Lowden was being "strongly considered" for the role on The Rest is Entertainment, prompting a surge in betting markets.

While the claims remain unverified, they have helped establish Lowden as one of the most talked-about candidates in the race. At 36, he also falls into the age range many observers believe producers may prefer for a long-term Bond reboot. His experience playing intelligence officer River Cartwright in Slow Horses has only strengthened arguments that he already possesses many of the qualities associated with Bond.

3. Harris Dickinson

Following acclaimed performances in Triangle of Sadness, The Iron Claw, Babygirl, and The King's Man, Harris Dickinson has become one of Britain's fastest-rising stars. His growing reputation for balancing vulnerability, intensity, and charisma has made him a natural candidate for discussions about Bond. Dickinson's name frequently appears alongside Callum Turner and Jacob Elordi whenever industry insiders discuss the next 007.

Some fans view him as a modern interpretation of Bond who could help redefine the character for a younger generation. However, it is worth noting that former Bond casting director Debbie McWilliams recently expressed skepticism about several high-profile frontrunners, including Dickinson, arguing that Bond often works best when played by someone audiences do not know too well yet.

4. Aaron Taylor-Johnson

For years, Aaron Taylor-Johnson seemed like the most likely candidate to replace Daniel Craig. The actor's resume already includes action-heavy roles in Bullet Train, Kraven the Hunter, Kick-A**, and Nocturnal Animals, giving him the physicality often associated with Bond. Rumors surrounding Taylor-Johnson intensified in recent years after reports claimed he had impressed executives during meetings and screen tests.

Despite widespread speculation, neither the actor nor the studio has ever confirmed that he has been offered the role. Although newer names have gained momentum, Taylor-Johnson remains firmly in the conversation and continues to appear in most major Bond shortlists.

5. Jacob Elordi

The Australian star, Jacob Elordi, has become a surprising late entrant in the Bond conversation. After breakthrough roles in Euphoria, Saltburn, Priscilla, and Wuthering Heights, Elordi's popularity has skyrocketed internationally. Rumors intensified throughout 2026, with several reports naming him as one of the leading contenders. However, Elordi has consistently dodged questions about Bond. At the recent premiere for his latest release, The Dog Stars, he brushed aside inquiries about the role by saying he is "on vacation," offering no indication that he is involved in the casting process.

His candidacy has also divided opinion. While some believe his global appeal could bring a fresh audience to the franchise, others argue Bond should remain British. Former Bond casting director Debbie McWilliams has publicly stated she would prefer a less obvious choice than Elordi or some of the other heavily rumored names.

For now, the race to become the next James Bond remains wide open. While actors like Callum Turner, Jack Lowden, Harris Dickinson, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Jacob Elordi continue to dominate fan discussions and industry speculation, none of them has been officially cast as 007. Each contender brings something different to the table, whether it is proven action credentials, rising star power, or experience in the spy genre.

With Denis Villeneuve confirmed to direct the next Bond film, attention will now turn to one of Hollywood's most closely watched casting decisions. Interest in the franchise remains as strong as ever, highlighted by the recent resurgence of Daniel Craig's final Bond films on Netflix. Until an official announcement arrives, fans can only speculate about who will step into the tuxedo and usher in the next era of James Bond.
