Fans Are Split Over Channing Tatum’s Toned-Down Cajun Accent for Gambit in New ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Teaser

Avengers: Doomsday seems to have taken it easy with Channing Tatum’s thick Cajun accent for Gambit, and fans are divided over this tweak. Long before finally suiting up as the card-slinging mutant in Deadpool & Wolverine, Channing Tatum endured a famously rocky road trying to get a solo Gambit film off the ground at 20th Century Fox, only for the high-profile spin-off to dissolve entirely during the corporate chaos of the Disney merger. When he triumphantly resurrected the role in 2024, his performance was a comedic triumph in The Void, highlighted by an intentionally thick, nearly impenetrable Cajun brogue.
However, jumping from a multiverse comedy into a high-stakes epic like Avengers: Doomsday requires a pivot. A newly dropped promotional crossover with Dunkin' gives fans their first real look at Remy LeBeau's updated voice, revealing a noticeably dialed-back and refined accent that strikes the ideal balance for a mainstream Marvel ensemble.
Instead of a standard trailer, the spot places the mutant chilling inside the New Avengers Tower, where he is suddenly interrupted by H.E.R.B.I.E. The robotic assistant attempts to break down the terrifying mechanics of Multiversal Incursions, the catastrophic planetary collisions threatening all of reality, using a box of “Avenging Munchkins Donut Hole Treats” as visual aids.

Beyond the meta-humor, the commercial offers a genuinely chilling glimpse of what the early stages of an Incursion will look like, showing an alternate Earth looming ominously in the sky above the MCU's Earth-616. However, more than the Incursion itself, it was Gambit’s accent that got everyone more riled up.
Fans have shown different emotions over the change in Gambit’s dialect, which seems to be a problem for many.
Polarizing fan reactions to the new Gambit accent
When Channing Tatum told Variety last year that he is not going to go full Cajun for Avengers: Doomsday, he was definitely not kidding. According to him, directors Joe and Anthony Russo wanted to keep the drama tight in serious moments, and Tatum’s thick Cajun accent would have only come in the way of their vision. However, not all of the fans are on board with this little deflection, and some are even outright dismissive of this decision.
“Bro dropped the accent,” noted one user.
“That new Gambit voice sounds like Google Translate trying to speak Cajun for a Dunkin' ad. Y'all waited 10 years for THIS?? Taylor Kitsch clears," complained another.
“After Deadpool & Wolverine, I'm slightly disappointed I can actually understand what Gambit's saying now,” quipped a fan.
“Sounds like s***!” affirmed another fan.
Conversely, there were others who were supportive of this shift to a more comprehensible speech and his portrayal of the mutant.
“He does a Great job with it,” appreciated a fan.
“The accent is so cool,” commented another.
“Didn't mind the original but this sounds better,” shared a user.
“So he toned it down a bit to fit in with the seriousness of Doomsday. I like that,” confirmed another.

The star-studded MCU crossover is bringing back a powerhouse lineup of iconic Fox-era mutants alongside Tatum. Audiences can expect to see James Marsden returning as Cyclops, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Ian McKellen as Magneto, and the late Sir Patrick Stewart as Professor X.
