The prevailing question in every tabloid currently revolves around the identity of the next major villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With Jonathan Majors departing Marvel, leaving the role of Kang vacant and the seat of a formidable antagonist empty, Galactus emerged as a strong contender. Yet, a previously overlooked antagonist from Spider-Man's lore has gained traction as a potential alternative. However, considering the separate universes of Marvel and Spider-Man, fan speculation has sparked disagreement, leading to divided opinions on this theory.

As Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse celebrated its first anniversary, MyTimeToShineHello voiced on X that the film's antagonist should be the next major villain in the Multiverse Saga. Jonathan Ohnn, better known as the Spot, served as the movie's villain, possessing a body that acted as an interdimensional portal, enabling him to traverse different universes and spaces.

Despite Spot's formidable abilities that could potentially position him as a significant antagonist in the Multiverse, there is a minor complication that fans have not overlooked. Since Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is part of Sony's Spider-Man Universe, fans are hesitant about adopting a Spider-Man villain as a central antagonist for the Avengers.

Even though the renegotiated deal allows Spider-Man to be integrated with Marvel Studios through the Multiverse connection, not all fans are enthusiastic about this prospect.

With Kang's uncertain future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the seat for a primary antagonist remains vacant. While Galactus could emerge as a formidable threat if given the opportunity, Spot is not the preferred choice among comic book enthusiasts. Although fans did recognize Spot's potential to challenge Kang as a villain, they were hesitant to mix the universes.

Many fans even viewed Spot as a "mid-Spider-Man villain"; someone who appeared threatening but ultimately was not considered a major adversary. 

Some suggested incorporating a Sony-owned villain would necessitate further negotiations between Marvel and Sony's universes. Others further believed the debate sparked online was more clickbait than a serious discussion, as the likelihood of such a crossover remains uncertain. Therefore, as the MCU continues its search for its next major villain, this serves as a cautionary tale for creators not to mix universes, at least on the villainous front given its potential to dishearten fans.
