Andrew Garfield has gushed over his rumored girlfriend Monica Barbaro while promoting their new film, Artificial. The actors share the screen in Luca Guadagnino's drama about the rise of OpenAI, which Neon picked up after Amazon MGM Studios stepped away. Garfield was asked about working beside her, and the reply was sweeter than a studio press line usually allows. This pair draws close attention, so every kind word travels fast.

While Hollywood usually serves compliments in tiny, polite portions, Garfield went for the full plate, and his praise for Barbaro was anything but restrained.

Andrew Garfield is clearly most in awe of Monica Barbaro’s talent as an actor. When asked about sharing the Artificial ride with his co-star, Garfield did not hold back, quickly making it clear that he has been a fan of hers for a long time.

"She's a wonderful actor, she's so talented, I've been a fan of hers for so long," Garfield said to Entertainment Tonight.

He then praised her ability to bring “this kind of mysterious enigma” to life in such a "complex and human way."

Garfield also told Entertainment Tonight that the entire Artificial cast is a brilliant ensemble that surprised him every day on the set. Garfield plays Sam Altman, while Barbaro plays Mira Murati, Yura Borisov plays Ilya Sutskever, and Ike Barinholtz plays Elon Musk. He had previously worked with Will Price on After the Hunt and summed up the experience by calling the entire ensemble “joyful.”

While the praise is loud and cheerful, the rumored romance has played out in whispers, so here is how it unfolded.

Andrew Garfield and Monica Barbaro were photographed together at W magazine's Best Performances party in January 2025, with his arm around her. A month later, footage from a London performance of Richard II sparked dating rumors, and a report a day later said the pair were quietly dating. At the Oscars in March, they arrived separately but walked the red carpet at the same time, a very coordinated coincidence.

Garfield and Barbaro were spotted holding hands in Kyoto in April 2025 and again at the Venice Film Festival that August. They kissed over dinner in Rome in June 2026, then repeated the move at Wimbledon a week later. In August, Garfield joined Barbaro in New York after the premiere of her film One Night Only. Neither has publicly confirmed the romance, but Garfield remains a fan of hers.
