'Family Guy' Spin-Off Series 'Stewie' In Works: All About Release Window, Filming Updates and More
Family Guy, a beloved American animated sitcom, has been entertaining the audience with its bold and daring comedic style since 1999. The show, created by Seth MacFarlane, takes comedy to a level where it trespasses into risky domains, creating the show's unique selling point. The popularity of the show even paved the way for a spin-off series, The Cleaveland Show, based on one of the side characters of the show, regardless of its eventual cancellation.
Now, Fox Studios, the force behind the show, is ready with a new surprise for the fans with a new spin-off series around one of the family members themselves: Stewie Griffin.

Fox has announced a spin-off series of the worldwide hit Family Guy titled Stewie, which centres on Peter Griffin's evil genius toddler son, as per Deadline. Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane and 20th Television Animation are behind the upcoming animated sitcom, which will follow Stewie in a new preschool and his adventures with his new classmates.
Stewie is scheduled to debut on Fox in the 2027-2028 season, then be available for streaming on Hulu the following day and Disney+ worldwide. The spin-off will be a new addition to Fox's lineup of long-running 20th TV animation series, which includes MacFarlane's Family Guy and American Dad!, as well as The Simpsons and Bob's Burgers, all of which were given four-season renewals in 2025 as part of an unusual four-by-four mega contract.
The agreements for all five animated series are now valid through 2029, aligned with when Fox's existing $1.5 billion in-season streaming arrangement with 20th TV's Disney sister, Hulu, expires. Stewie's two-year pickup will bring it into line with the others, as well. For the time being, the show's episode count is still unknown, but according to Deadline, it is marginally fewer than the 15 episodes a season that the classic 20th Century Animation shows are currently generating under the terms of their Fox contract.
Fans have seen Stewie undertaking all sorts of adventures and shenanigans for almost three decades now, and are now curious as to what this new show will have in store for this cute menace.
New setting and new escapades for Stewie
In the spin-off, Stewie is compelled to enrol in a subpar preschool after being expelled from his previous one. Here, he meets a 75-year-old class turtle with incomplete knowledge about everything, along with classmates he is a complete stranger to. Life seems to be down in the dumps for each of them until Stewie starts using his reliable collection of gadgets, transforming every dull school day into a crazy and fantastical journey.
In comparison to what he used to be at the beginning of the original show, Stewie has changed and matured over the years. From being a kid who once wanted nothing more than to assassinate his mother and dominate the world to being a caring friend to Brian, as well as developing increasingly sophisticated scientific inventions, such as multiverse-traversing devices, his evolution has been fascinating.

It will be interesting to see how his personality changes will help him in the new setting and how creators Seth MacFarlane and his long-time Family Guy writer, Kirker Butler, will give this show a different identity. A show where significant effort goes into making even a single episode of the dark comedy is bound to come with big expectations, and those same expectations are now tied to the new spin-off series, too.
