Dakota Johnson revealed that she actually fainted into Josh Hartnett’s arms while filming a serious scene for Verity, only to learn that a kidney infection was behind the on-set scare. The actress recalled the bizarre moment while appearing on Late Night with Seth Meyers. The timing is particularly fitting, with Verity finally arriving in theaters and Johnson stepping back into the spotlight with one of her most psychologically intense roles yet.

For Johnson, however, one of the most memorable moments from making the movie was not something scripted.

While filming Verity, Dakota Johnson suddenly fainted into Josh Hartnett’s arms during a serious scene, recalling the startling moment on Late Night with Seth Meyers. The scene had been playing out normally until Johnson unexpectedly lost consciousness, leaving Hartnett to catch her and lay her down on the ground.

“I, yeah, I fainted into Josh Hartnett’s arms....Turns out I had a kidney infection, but so I just like passed out," Johnson said.

The actress explained that the scene was particularly serious, which made the sudden turn even more jarring for everyone on set. Hartnett immediately reacted when she went down, catching his co-star rather than allowing her to hit the floor. When Johnson regained consciousness, however, her first instinct was apparently to get back to work. The crew had a very different response, telling her, “Uh, you’re going to the hospital.”

There is another reason Johnson is everywhere this week. As Verity reaches theaters on October 2, the actress is also heading back to Studio 8H for her third Saturday Night Live hosting appearance, giving her an unusually packed weekend between the psychological thriller’s release and a live comedy stage.

Dakota Johnson has already shown that her understated delivery can work particularly well in the SNL format. During her previous hosting stint, her dry, deadpan energy became part of the joke, especially when she was paired with performers who pushed the sketches into increasingly chaotic territory. That contrast gives her return its own built-in appeal, particularly as she arrives with Verity dominating the conversation around her.

The timing also creates an interesting overlap between Johnson’s two current projects. She is stepping back into SNL just one day after Verity opens, with Josh Hartnett and the film’s unsettling world still fresh in the public conversation. Her latest hosting appearance therefore lands at the intersection of her thriller press tour and her established comedy persona, giving audiences a chance to see a very different side of the actress immediately after the film’s release.

For Johnson, it is a neat full-circle moment in a week that has already produced one very unexpected story. One minute she is recounting how she fainted into Hartnett’s arms on the set of Verity and assumed she could simply continue filming; the next, she is walking back onto the SNL stage for another live television performance.
