For now, fans will have to wait for an official update. However, Danny McBride has already shared details about his vision for the film. Unlike previous movies in the franchise, McBride said the new G.I. Joe movie will turn the focus on action and suspense. During an appearance on Happy Sad Confused, he discussed his approach to the project.
“Weirdly, it grounds G.I. Joe; it’s not a comedy. It’s kind of suspense and action, and I think it’s going to be a lot of fun,” McBride said. “You’re following Duke and a group of other Joes… There’s that town in the comic, Springfield, which is a town that’s secretly all Cobra, and so that is where our film takes place.”
Cooper and McBride previously worked together on HBO's The Righteous Gemstones, where Cooper made a guest appearance as Elijah Gemstone. If the casting rumors are indeed true, the two could reunite for the upcoming film. Apart from this rumored role, Cooper is confirmed to star in the Ocean’s 13 prequel alongside Margot Robbie.
The actor is also set to star in two other upcoming projects.
