After years of brushing off Widow’s Bay’s eerie superstitions as small-town folklore, Mayor Tom Loftis is discovering that the island may be hiding something far more sinister. As ancient horrors, sea hags, and long-buried legends continue creeping into reality, the mystery surrounding the island only seems to be getting darker with every episode.

As of now, Apple TV+ has not officially renewed Widow’s Bay for a second season. However, with the horror-comedy currently holding an impressive 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes and generating strong fan buzz, a renewal remains firmly on the table. More importantly, creator Katie Dippold has already hinted that the story is far from over, telling The Cut, “Going forward would be about really living in it.” With Matthew Rhys, aka Tom, finally confronting the island’s terrifying reality and deeper mysteries still lurking beneath the surface, the groundwork for another chapter is already there.

“Season 1 is a lot about denial and repression and acceptance. Going forward would be about really living in it. What kind of leader can you be in these circumstances?” Dippold told The Cut.

For now, though, all eyes remain on Season 1. The series consists of 10 episodes, with the finale scheduled for June 17, and has earned praise for its unique blend of supernatural horror and sharp comedy. Led by Matthew Rhys, Kate O’Flynn, Stephen Root, Betty Gilpin and Hamish Linklater, the show has steadily expanded its mythology through cursed folklore originally filmed across several picturesque towns in Massachusetts, creating the kind of rich, twisted world that feels built for multiple seasons.

But while fans continue debating Widow’s Bay’s future, Episode 7 may have quietly delivered some of the show's biggest answers and its most disturbing twist yet.

Episode 7 sends Tom straight into the Island’s darkest secret

Episode 7 picks up after the events of the flashback-heavy previous chapter and wastes little time throwing Tom deeper into the island’s nightmare. After Patricia and Wyck piece together pages from Sarah Westcott Warren’s diary, the trio uncovers a horrifying possibility: the curse may be tied directly to Richard Warren’s bloodline. What follows is one of the season’s most tense storylines as Tom, Wyck and the undead Warren head out to sea in a desperate attempt to finally break the island’s grip. But when Warren suddenly fights for survival at the last moment, the mission spirals into chaos, forcing Tom to make a life-or-death decision beyond the island’s forbidden boundary.

The biggest shock, however, arrives after Warren finally crumbles into dust. Despite his death, nothing on the island actually changes. Instead, a new clue suggests the curse may have survived through another branch of Warren’s family tree, potentially connecting directly to Tom’s late wife and son Ethan. Meanwhile, Ethan discovers a devastating family secret that leaves him shaken with rage, setting the stage for what could become the show's most explosive storyline heading into the finale. With curses intact, family secrets unraveling and the island refusing to let go of its victims, Episode 7 proves Widow’s Bay is far from done delivering surprises.

And while Widow’s Bay Season 2 has yet to find its shore at Apple TV+, fans can likely expect even bigger revelations before the Season 1 finale arrives.
