Is the Mad Max franchise finally getting a new film? The famous franchise began with George Miller’s original trilogy and, more than two decades later, was revived with Mad Max: Fury Road in 2015. In 2024, a fifth film in the franchise was released, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.

However, there has not been much conversation about when the next film could arrive until now. Rumors of a sequel finally gaining hope with a green light have been circulating. But is there any truth to these rumors?

Chaos Crave recently shared a post claiming that Warner Bros. has given the green light to the Mad Max sequel, The Wasteland. It claimed that both Tom Hardy (Max) and Charlize Theron (Furiosa) will return to reprise their roles. However, Chaos Crave is a satirical news account, so the post is likely not true.

But the director claimed that the two films are connected in some way. More details about the potential sequel film have not been revealed yet. Last year, Tom Hardy was also asked for an update on the potential sequel, and he had a shocking response.

“I don’t think that’s happening,” Hardy told Forbes.

Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy’s rift while filming Mad Max: Fury Road

The Odyssey actress Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy reportedly had a rift on the set of Mad Max: Fury Road. In an interview with The Telegraph, director George Miller also opened up about the tension on set. He revealed what fueled the incident.

"Tom has a damage to him but also a brilliance that comes with it, and whatever was going on with him at the time, he had to be coaxed out of his trailer. Whereas Charlize was incredibly disciplined – a dancer by training, which told in the precision of her performance – and always the first one on set," he said.
