As Euphoria Season 3 closes its curtain, the internet acts as if it has discovered a lost diary written in invisible ink. One could hardly forget the rumors sparked by Zendaya seemingly distancing herself from the promotion of Euphoria Season 3. As the series comes to a bittersweet end, a specific fan account claims that they have found the truth behind Zendaya's distance from Euphoria season 3.

Of course, with the show now ended, fans' next mission is to figure out whether these claims were true and if Zendaya actually aimed for a different ending for Rue, and thus distancing herself from Euphoria season 3.

The fan account, _nahmt on X declared Zendaya returned only out of respect for fans, rejected the script over steamy scenes, demanded Rue’s sobriety arc, suggested children, a happy ending, and allegedly stepped away from promotion as some kind of silent verdict on the show itself. The statement is partially inaccurate but also significantly exaggerated.

While there are verified reports of creative disagreements and a more limited promotional presence by Zendaya for the third season of Euphoria, the claims about her demanding a happy ending, children for Rue, or refusing promotion entirely are not supported by credible industry reporting.

Industry reporting from outlets such as The Hollywood Reporter and Variety indicates real tension between Zendaya and creator Sam Levinson over Season 3 direction. Early drafts reportedly included unconventional arcs for Rue, which Zendaya pushed back against. However, the narrative that she insisted on a specific “happy motherhood ending” is not substantiated by confirmed sources.

Claims that Zendaya fully “stepped away” from production are also overstated. While there have been reports suggesting shifts in her level of creative involvement and producing credit discussions, there is no clear confirmation that she completely abandoned an executive role as a form of protest. Her participation remains consistent as the lead actor and key creative voice.

"I think that’s my number one duty," was what she said in an in-depth interview for her November 2024 Vanity Fair Hollywood Issue profile. Although she did say that she had a responsibility towards fans, it is not confirmed that that was the only reason that she did Euphoria season 3. Zendaya may have questioned parts of the script, but her participation went beyond simple “for the fans” narratives.

Euphoria Season 3 has been tangled in rumors from the start, from Zendaya’s script debates to alleged rifts with Sydney Sweeney, but Rue’s core direction remains the clearest thread

What ending did Zendaya want for Rue?

Zendaya's reported disagreements with Euphoria Season 3 were never really about giving Rue Bennett a picture-perfect life. Instead, they centered on preserving the character's emotional truth. According to coverage of her 2024 Vanity Fair profile, Zendaya's priority was ensuring Rue was cared for as a character and remained worthy of the audience's investment.

What emerged from various reports was a consistent theme: Zendaya wanted redemption rather than punishment. The performer was said to favor a version of Rue who continued fighting for sobriety and self-forgiveness, even when confronted with devastating consequences. That perspective also aligns with her long-standing comments about wanting viewers to see hope in Rue's future rather than only despair. Which may be the reason why people choose to believe in the rumors that Zendaya was unhappy with the script.
