Coyote vs. Acme is a live-action/animation hybrid comedy from director Dave Green, starring Will Forte, John Cena, and Lana Condor. The premise, which is based on the classic Looney Tunes character Wile E. Coyote, and follows him as he sues the Acme Corporation, has already garnered attention from the fans. Warner Bros. finished the film in 2023 but sat on it until Ketchup Entertainment picked up the rights and announced a theatrical release for August 28, 2026. 

Meanwhile, a viral claim suggesting that it debuted with 101% Rotten Tomatoes score has grabbed the attention, but the real story is something else. 

Coyote vs. Acme did not open with a 101% Rotten Tomatoes score, as the viral claim suggested. The film, which Warner Bros. had previously shelved for years, but has now been given a green-light, did briefly hit a perfect 100%, but its score has since fallen as more reviews came in, sitting at roughly 96% right now. There is also no such thing as a 101% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. 

It seems the rumor originated with Daily Noud, which first claimed that same on X. The post instantly went viral, however, it was misleading. Moreover, Rotten Tomatoes scores cannot exceed 100%. Additionally, the early Coyote vs. Acme review embargoes were lifted on 12 August 2026, and the film received an overwhelmingly positive reaction from critics.

It has only received two negative reviews so far. Variety described the film as tame while Screen International slammed its screenplay. IGN was much more positive, giving the film 9 out of 10. Reviewer Clint Gage praised its humor, calling it a clever, meta response to corporate controversies surrounding the Looney Tunes property.

Critics have responded well to Coyote vs. Acme, and its 96% rating speaks volumes about the hype surrounding the movie, even if the Rotten Tomatoes rating of 101% is a fib. The Looney Tunes comedy, which languished in limbo for years after Warner Bros. shelved it, is finally headed to theaters. It is an animated and live-action comedy, and courtroom chaos could provide Wile E. Coyote with a new chapter in cinema, while providing viewers with a playful story of friendship, corporate power, and accountability.
