For a spectacle that roared louder than any engine on the grid, F1 the movie has emerged as one of the heavyweight contenders at the upcoming 98th Academy Awards, set for March 15, 2026. A film that many assumed would be little more than high-octane entertainment transcended expectations, earning four nominations, including Best Picture, Best Sound, Best Film Editing and Best Visual Effects.

Among the creative minds was F1 producer Lewis Hamilton, whose passion for the sport and personal insight helped fuel its success. But as the Oscars approach, one question burns louder than DRS-assisted acceleration: will the seven-time world champion himself be present at the ceremony?

Despite the buzz around F1’s nominations, Lewis Hamilton has confirmed he will not attend the Oscars 2026 ceremony. Sharing a candid update with fans, he explained in an interview with an Italian publication. 

“I won't be able to go to the Oscars, because we'll be racing in China. I've never been to the ceremony. It would have been great to see and meet people like Denzel Washington live. It means I really have to produce another movie,” he said.

As he casually announced his absence to the Italian newspaper called Corriere della Sera, there is a reason behind it. A packed 2026 Formula 1 calendar, which places the Formula 1 Heineken Chinese Grand Prix (Round 2) in Shanghai on March 15, on the same day as the Oscars.

This follows the pre-season testing in Bahrain, where teams have been fine-tuning their 2026 machines. The tight travel schedule, jetting from Melbourne to Shanghai, leaves little room for Hollywood glamour.

It is a striking contrast, the sport’s most schedule-bound athlete is dreaming of wandering through landscapes untouched by telemetry or tire strategy. 

In a delightful twist ahead of the new season, Formula 1 released a video of drivers sharing their goals for 2026, and Lewis Hamilton’s was delightfully off-beat. Rather than talk titles or podiums, he spoke of travel aspirations:

“I wanna travel through India and then make my way up through the Himalayas. That’s like my future dream for me,” he said. 

Hamilton’s affection for India is not entirely new. Though the sport has not returned to Indian soil since hosting races at the Buddh International Circuit, his whimsical dream connects to a quirky memory, he once rode an Indian autorickshaw at the circuit, a moment fans still fondly recall. And with Formula 1 recently hosting promotional events in India that hinted at renewed interest in the market, hope remains alive that one day the drivers might race where Hamilton plans to trek. 

As F1’s Oscars fate unfolds and the real-world championship kicks off with engines screaming across three continents, fans are left both entertained and inspired.
