Ezra Miller Breaks Silence Post-Arrests, Says They May Resume Acting Career on “..tentative grounds”

Ezra Miller’s Hollywood sabbatical began not with a formal announcement, but with a string of headlines that read more like a screenplay gone off-rails. After navigating a maze of arrests, accusations, and general bewilderment, Miller vanished from the limelight, reportedly to address “complex mental health issues.” The result? A two-year vanishing act worthy of its own cinematic universe. But like any actor with an affinity for dramatic returns, Miller re-emerged, cape not included, at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, walking the red carpet for the first time since 2023.

After such a long time away from the red carpet, the Fantastic Beasts actor has opened up about their return to Hollywood.

Speaking to the Italian outlet Lo Speciale Giornale during their appearance at the Filming Italy Sardegna Festival, actor Ezra Miller reflected on their measured return to the public spotlight. Miller stated, “I am returning on tentative grounds,” acknowledging the complexity of re-entering Hollywood after a string of personal and legal controversies. The statement marked Miller’s first major public engagement in two years and signaled a deliberate, if cautious, reintroduction to professional life and the entertainment industry.

In the same interview, Miller candidly discussed the surreal experience of rejoining public life after an extended absence. “I do not recommend going straight back into public life after three years,” they noted, referencing their decision to attend the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. Miller explained that their appearance was not motivated by a career move but by their desire to support filmmaker Lynne Ramsay, whom they described as “one of the greatest living filmmakers.” Ramsay’s film Die My Love stars Jennifer Lawrence in the lead role, who at the first clap of applause has credited her emotionally charged performance to her pregnancy.

Having made their first public appearance in years, Ezra Miller also seems poised to re-engage with several creative ventures.

What is next on Ezra Miller’s slate?

Ezra Miller has revealed that their first possible project back in Hollywood might not involve running in a red bodysuit, but rather writing, specifically a film with longtime collaborator Lynne Ramsay. While the project remains untitled, Miller hinted it would likely be their first step back into professional territory. They also mentioned spending ample time writing in solitude, which, for someone fresh off a multi-year retreat from the spotlight, sounds both productive and highly on-brand.

Of course, the red-suited elephant in the room is The Flash 2. Despite the original film’s chaotic box office sprint, there remains a sliver of possibility for a sequel, mainly because director James Gunn has shown little interest in replacing Miller. If the sequel ever materializes, Miller might just end up toggling between indie art house scripts and multiversal speed battles. Variety, after all, is the spice of re-entry.
