Among the many titles that Disney keeps shooting now and then from the Star Wars universe, the one that the fans want the most is still missing. Obi-Wan Kenobi still remains one of the most beloved characters in the franchise, but there is still no word from Disney on the Jedi Master’s solo adventure after the 2022 limited television series Obi-Wan Kenobi. 

Now, Ewan McGregor, who brought the iconic character to life after Alec Guinness in the original trilogy, has taken it upon himself to keep the hope alive for a second season of the Disney series. 

In a recent interview with E! News, at the premiere of his upcoming The End of Oak Street, Ewan McGregor stated that he still believes there is a lot of uncharted terrain in Obi-Wan's years of exile on Tatooine. The actor has indicated that there is plenty of space for other stories that bridge that timeframe by pointing out the significant gap between where his own series ended and where Alec Guinness's version of the character eventually picks up.

“I want to do and spend the rest of my career doing these stories. I've got 10 years before I'm Alec Guinness's age. So come on, Disney,” McGregor shared his enthusiasm about a follow-up.

Anyhow, this is not the only instance when McGregor has made this precise claim. Deborah Chow, Obi-Wan Kenobi series creator, claims that McGregor literally started giving her ideas for season 2 as they were wrapping up the first season, telling her there were "another 10 years with plenty of stories" remaining to explore. It is obvious from the E! News interview that he has maintained that zeal over the years.

McGregor has acknowledged that nothing has truly progressed on the project despite the ongoing teasing, suggesting that public support could be what eventually gets the ball rolling on a sequel. In the past, Chow has expressed a similar opinion, stating that while she concentrated on completing the show, she currently had in front of her, she is not closed off to returning to the character.

There is a reason why the actor believes that there is an appetite for more Obi-Wan stories among fans.

The popularity of Obi-Wan Kenobi within the larger Disney canvas is key to the fire for a second season of the limited series. Only The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett are more popular Star Wars series on the platform than this one. Even though no official confirmation has been made, fans have grounds to think that Lucasfilm may someday bring the character back.

As of right now, the actor who has intermittently portrayed Obi-Wan for more than 20 years has only offered more optimistic remarks. It is unclear if this most recent tease will lead somewhere, but Ewan McGregor, who is currently busy promoting his latest film, The End of Oak Street with Anne Hathaway, is obviously not letting the fire die down easily.
