Every Mike Flanagan horror series ranked for the ultimate Halloween watchlist brings together haunted houses, disturbing family secrets, supernatural mysteries, and enough existential dread to ruin a perfectly good night's sleep. From heartbreaking ghost stories to chilling gothic nightmares, these series offer plenty of reasons to keep the lights on this October.

The countdown starts with a house that has strong opinions about its tenants.

The Haunting of Hill House

The Haunting of Hill House arrived in 2018 and streams on Netflix. It follows the Crain family, who move into a sprawling mansion in 1992 to renovate it. Renovation plans rarely survive contact with a ghost.

Strange events escalate until a tragedy forces everyone out, and years later the adult siblings are pulled back after another family loss. Michiel Huisman, Carla Gugino and Victoria Pedretti lead a cast that makes the family trauma hurt more than most horror managed to. It earns the top spot because it pairs flawless atmosphere and iconic scares like the Bent-Neck Lady with emotional weight, which is why it is the series people rewatch every October.

Next, an island in need of a miracle gets a priest, while the miracles come with fine print.

Midnight Mass

Midnight Mass debuted in 2021 and is available on Netflix. Riley Flynn returns to the isolated fishing island of Crockett after prison, just as a charismatic young priest begins performing apparent miracles. Faith, guilt, and something far darker slowly consume the tight-knit community, which proves that small towns need better background checks.

Hamish Linklater gives the standout performance as Father Paul, while Zach Gilford, Kate Siegel and Samantha Sloyan keep the congregation unsettlingly real. This is Mike Flanagan’s most original and thematically rich series, with a slow burn and a devastating final stretch. It lands second because the philosophy runs deeper than the pure haunted house scares that make The Haunting of Hill House the stronger Halloween pick.

Up next, a pharmaceutical empire loses heirs at an alarming rate, while Edgar Allan Poe supplies the blueprint.

The Fall of the House of Usher

The Fall of the House of Usher landed in 2023 and can be watched on Netflix. Roderick Usher, a ruthless pharmaceutical CEO, watches his six adult children die one by one in bizarre and brutal ways. A late-night confession reveals the dark secrets behind the family’s rise to power.

“The Fall of the House of Usher is a bombastic, chaotic evil mess”: Kate Siegel Calls the Upcoming Mike Flanagan Series “buckets of blood”

Edgar Allan Poe provides the inspiration, so every death arrives with literary flair. Bruce Greenwood leads a stacked ensemble alongside Mary McDonnell, Mark Hamill, and returning favorites like Gugino. Inventive gory deaths meet sharp black comedy, which makes this the most entertaining and vicious entry on the list. It takes third place because the spectacle outweighs the emotional depth of the top two.

Fourth place trades gore for gothic romance, as an au pair arrives at a house full of residents who refuse to leave.

The Haunting of Bly Manor

The Haunting of Bly Manor premiered in 2020 and streams on Netflix. Set in 1980s England, it sends American au pair Dani Clayton to care for two orphaned children at a remote estate. She soon learns the house is haunted by restless spirits.

Clayton also forms a deep bond with the gardener Jamie, proving that even ghosts cannot stop a good love story. Pedretti plays Clayton opposite Amelia Eve, with Oliver Jackson-Cohen as Peter Quint and T’Nia Miller as Hannah. Real creepiness shows up in stretches, but romance and melancholy take priority over pure scares. That gentle gothic mix is beautifully made, yet it is exactly why the series sits fourth on a Halloween ranking.

Fifth place swaps the manor for a high school, as a bullied teenager discovers powers nobody ordered.

Carrie

Carrie arrived in 2026 and is exclusive to Prime Video, with all eight episodes available now. It opened with a promising Rotten Tomatoes score, which suggests the Stephen King classic has aged better than a gym locker. Carrie White is forced into public high school after her father’s sudden death, then bullied online and controlled by her fanatically religious mother.

Summer H. Howell stars as White, with Samantha Sloyan as her mother, Margaret, and Matthew Lillard as the principal. The series updates the bullying and religious themes effectively, and it is well acted with plenty of solid moments. It ranks fifth because it never reaches the atmospheric peaks or emotional power of the Netflix entries from Mike Flanagan.

The final stop is a hospice, as terminally ill teenagers gather to swap scary stories.

The Midnight Club

The Midnight Club premiered in 2022 and is streaming on Netflix. Terminally ill teenagers in a hospice gather every night to tell scary stories. They make a pact that the first to die will try to contact the others from beyond the grave.

An overarching mystery runs through nested horror tales, which is a lot of plot for one very polite séance. Iman Benson, Igby Rigney, Ruth Codd and Annarah Cymone lead a charming young cast, with ZachGilford and Samantha Sloyan in supporting roles. Some stories land effectively, but the series leans toward drama over full Mike Flanagan dread and feels the least cohesive of the bunch. That makes it the weakest pure Halloween pick and the last stop on this Halloween watchlist series.
