Timothée Chalamet and Matthew McConaughey recently sat down for a heartfelt conversation at a town hall hosted by Variety and CNN at the University of Texas at Austin’s Moody College of Communication, where they looked back on their time working together on Interstellar. When asked what he had taken away from working with Christopher Nolan, Chalamet revealed how the director inspired him to pursue acting, further naming the director as his favorite.

“Nolan is my favorite director to this day. The Dark Knight’ made me want to act. ‘Inception’ inspired me. When I read the script for ‘Interstellar,’ I thought it was going to change the world,” he said.

Chalamet was just 17 and still finding his feet when he worked on his second film, Interstellar, to play Tom Cooper. But that experience was transformative for him. Watching the brilliance and dedication of Nolan and McConaughey inspired him, as he described at the Variety and CNN event.

Matthew McConaughey recalls Christopher Nolan’s brilliance

Whether it is the heartbreaking sacrifice of a father to save humanity or the mesmerizing ride across the cosmos and black holes, Interstellar is a masterpiece of its own kind. The same can be said of Matthew McConaughey's experience working with Christopher Nolan. Looking back in time, he recalled how the director deeply studied to make sure the technical details in the movie were accurate.

“He had written this world and these concepts, and the rules of this world. Time travel, and how it’s different in different places and different frequencies. So I would go to him to ask the rules sometimes,” he said.
