“Even if We Didn’t Get Paid”- Hannah Waddingham Makes a Cheeky Admission About ‘Ted Lasso’ Season 5

Hannah Waddingham has admitted that the Ted Lasso cast would probably return for Season 5 even without a paycheck. The comment arrived weeks after the comedy wrapped its fourth season, leaving fans with no clues and plenty of time to speculate. Apple TV+ has stayed quiet about the future of AFC Richmond, so every hint from the cast is being examined as closely as a lost pair of football boots.
As Apple TV+ keeps AFC Richmond behind a very quiet door, Waddingham is happy to explain why the cast would knock for free.
Hannah Waddingham offers a pay-free pledge for Ted Lasso Season 5
Asked about filming, Hannah Waddingham says the cast would happily work for free. The latest finale left several storylines open. No filming date exists. No writers' room has opened yet.
“Why would you not want to be around those magnificent writers and the greatest cast?” said Waddingham to Variety.
She then added, “I mean, we’d all probably do it even if we didn’t get paid.”
She values the company over any salary.

Variety captured the remarks on the red carpet at the 2026 Women in Film Honors, held on November 5 at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills. Waddingham urged reporters to keep the confession from studio executives, then admitted she genuinely does not know whether Ted Lasso Season 5 is happening. She also collected the Crystal Award for Advocacy in Television, honoring her portrayal of Rebecca Welton and her off-screen work.
While Ted Lasso Season 5 remains a mystery, Waddingham has a record of sensing when Richmond will reopen its doors.
Why Hannah Waddingham always believed Ted Lasso Season 4 would happen
Hannah Waddingham told Variety before Ted Lasso Season 4 arrived that she never considered the show truly finished. The third season finale, in her view, left too big a cliffhanger for the story to simply stop. Never playing Rebecca again would have felt like losing a close friend. That bond makes perfect sense, since Rebecca grew from a bitter club owner chasing revenge into a confident leader with real friendships.

Many viewers assumed Ted Lasso ended in 2023, so Apple TV+ renewing it in March 2025 was a surprise. Ted Lasso Season 4 premiered on August 5, 2026, with Ted coaching the women’s team at AFC Richmond and Rebecca receiving a much bigger role. That bump has Waddingham in lead-actress conversations after past supporting submissions. For now, Ted Lasso Season 5 runs on hope and a generous payroll joke.
