For her upcoming film, Bugonia, Emma Stone took her transformation to the extreme by shaving her head completely. In an interview with Vogue, she described the experience of taking the first shower after going bald as "amazing." The dramatic change was a key part of her role in the dark comedy, which reunites her with director Yorgos Lanthimos. The film is set to debut at the Venice Film Festival, and her new look is already creating significant buzz.
The momentous scene in Bugonia features Emma Stone's character, a pharmaceutical CEO, getting kidnapped by a conspiracy theorist played by Jesse Plemons. As part of this intense moment, Plemons' character shaves her head in the back of a car. The high-stakes scene required both actors to commit fully, and Plemons told Vogue it felt like a significant, key moment in the film’s production.
While the events that led up to her getting bald are nothing less than hilarious, the film has an equally wild and unconventional premise.
What to expect from Bugonia?
The first trailer for Bugonia offers a glimpse into the latest collaboration between director Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone, a partnership that has previously yielded critical acclaim and an Oscar win for Stone. The film is a remake of the 2003 South Korean sci-fi comedy Save the Green Planet!, and its plot centers on two conspiracy theorists who kidnap a high-powered CEO, believing she is a dangerous alien. Stone is joined by her Kinds of Kindness co-star Jesse Plemons, along with appearances from Alicia Silverstone and comedian Stavros Halkias, rounding out a talented cast. Bugonia is one of many remakes set to hit the big screen.
