Amid the supreme buzz of box office highlights, Eddington has struck gold with a standing ovation that has transcended the French Republic to enter the social corridors.

Eddington’s Cannes day out was one of remembrance and fulfillment when the all-star cast gushed at the incredible reception. But do you know who makes up the star-studded ensemble? According to the official synopsis, Eddington is a 2025 contemporary Western film. Ari Aster has written and directed the flick. The movie revolves around the social and political turmoil caused by the devastating COVID-19 pandemic in the fictional city of Eddington, New Mexico. Eddington centers on a pair stranded in a desert town. While at first it seems welcoming, after nightfall, sinister forces surface (via Variety). 

Set in May 2020, a face-off between a small-town sheriff and mayor sparks a dangerous situation as “neighbor is pitted against neighbor” in Eddington. Aster wrote a script for a contemporary Western flick, which he thought of making his directorial debut. Although he made Hereditary and Midsommar first, it was only later that he updated the film to take place during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A Cannes watch guide is available. But the question is: when will Eddington be accessible to viewers?

Ari Aster’s Eddington had its world premiere at the main competition of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival on May 16, 2025. The film earned a standing ovation that echoed through the corridors of fame. Eddington is scheduled for a theatrical release by A24 on July 18, 2025. Eddington has a running time of 1 hour and 45 minutes. 

Aster has produced Eddington alongside Lars Knudsen and Ann Ruark under the production banners A24 and Square Peg. Darius Khondji serves as the cinematographer, Lucian Johnston is the editor, and  Daniel Pemberton and Bobby Krlic are behind the music.

As of now, there is no word on the streaming whereabouts of Eddington. However, once the film has a theatrical release, it is expected that fans will have their answers.
