Eddie Murphy is well known for lending his voice to Donkey in the famous Shrek franchise. However, his superstar career began long before that, when he joined Saturday Night Live at the age of 19 and made a name for himself with his unique sense of humor. He later brought that same flair to his movies, including 48 Hrs. and Trading Places.
Murphy also went on to explore voice acting gigs, adding several memorable titles to his name. However, one thing that has yet to be added to his resume is a scripted television series. The actor and comedian is now set to change that, as he is expected to star in a new series from Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner.
Eddie Murphy to star in his first-ever scripted show
Eddie Murphy is all set to star in Matthew Weiner's upcoming show, The Chairman. This will be Murphy’s first-ever role in a live-action scripted series, and it is currently in development at Peacock (via Deadline). He has previously lent his voice to characters on scripted shows.

While the plot of the upcoming show is not revealed, there are some fascinating developments off-screen. The show will be produced by Universal Television and the David Glasser co-founded company 101 Studios (via Deadline). This is also the first project from Chris McCarthy and 101 Studios after their deal at NBCUniversal.
Murphy will be joined by Weiner to executive produce the show. Weiner is a nine-time Emmy winner, well known as the showrunner for Mad Men, which ran for 7 seasons, and for writing The Sopranos. His last series was The Romanoffs on Amazon in 2018.
Now, before returning to the small screen with the scripted show, Murphy will likely appear on the big screen to reprise a beloved character.
Eddie Murphy is set to star in Shrek 5
Eddie Murphy is well known for his voice-acting roles. He voiced the character Mushu in Mulan and is also known for voicing Thurgood Stubbs in the sitcom The PJs. However, one of his most famous voice-acting roles was as Donkey in Shrek.

Murphy is set to reprise his role as Donkey in Shrek 5, which is scheduled for release on June 30, 2027. Following this, the actor will once again lend his voice to the character for the animated spin-off series Donkey, from Universal and DreamWorks, which is set to premiere on June 30, 2028. Clearly, the actor has a packed schedule ahead of him.
