Several Dutton Ranch cast members recently revealed that they never worked directly with Taylor Sheridan during the production of the Yellowstone spinoff series. Taylor Sheridan’s television empire has become one of the most dominant forces in modern TV, with the Yellowstone universe continuing to expand through multiple hit spinoffs. From intense family rivalries to brutal power struggles, the franchise has built a reputation around Sheridan’s distinct storytelling voice and larger-than-life characters.

Now, Dutton Ranch is carrying that legacy forward by shifting Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler’s story into dangerous new territory in Texas. With fresh faces joining the cast and new conflicts already taking shape, the Paramount+ series is quickly establishing itself as another major chapter in the ever-growing franchise. But behind the scenes, the production operated a little differently than some fans may have expected.

Even though Dutton Ranch exists within Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone universe, actors James Eddie, Sterlin English, Marc Menchaca, and Juan Pablo Raba have shared that they did not meet Sheridan during production. The creator, while also thoroughly involveved with the spin-off show as an executive producer, has not shown himself "at all."

“But, I’ve heard great things,” Sterlin English reassured while talking to Page Six.

Instead, the series was largely guided by creator and Season 1 showrunner Chad Feehan, along with director and executive producer Christina Alexandra Voros, who has long been viewed as one of Sheridan’s closest collaborators. According to Marc Menchaca, Voros effectively “steered the ship” throughout filming. However, major changes are reportedly ahead for Season 2, as Feehan is expected to exit his role as showrunner following reported creative clashes tied to the production.

As the off-screen dynamics surrounding the series continue to draw attention, the drama unfolding within the show itself is also becoming far more layered, especially after Episode 3 introduced an emotional twist that could reshape one of the story’s most intimidating characters.

Beulah and Everett’s past adds an emotional twist to the story

Episode 3 of Dutton Ranch revealed that Annette Bening’s Beulah Jackson and Ed Harris’ Everett share a long and complicated romantic history, giving viewers a very different perspective on Beulah’s character. The revelation comes during Sheriff Logan’s funeral, where the reunion between the two longtime acquaintances exposes a softer and more vulnerable side of Beulah that the series had not previously explored.

The episode also makes it increasingly clear that Beulah still carries feelings for Everett. During a quiet exchange, she admits, “Well, I’ve missed you,” hinting that her harsh exterior may be masking unresolved emotions and a longing for connection. Bening further explained that Beulah is searching for “intimacy, and romance” with a man who has moved in and out of her life for years, adding another compelling layer to one of the show’s most formidable figures.
