Michelle Pfeiffer has revealed one of the biggest differences between her film, Batman Returns and Marvel Cinematic Universe films. The acclaimed actress has appeared in three MCU movies throughout her career. However, before stepping into the MCU, she starred as Catwoman in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns.

While both franchises are often packed with intense action and larger-than-life characters, Pfeiffer says the experience of filming the movies is different for one reason.

Michelle Pfeiffer weighs in on filming Batman Returns and MCU movies

In her interview with Deadline, Michelle Pfeiffer shared that the filmmaking process she noticed in her DC movie and Marvel movies is very different. She pointed out that MCU movies focus heavily on CGI. However, that was not the case with Tim Burton’s Batman Returns, where much of the film was shot using practical sets.

“Batman was actually very intimate and everything was not, you know ... there weren't really special effects no CGI,” she said. “I don't remember there being any green screen."

She further added, “So, you know, that (Batman Returns) was just like making a regular movie dressed up [and] weird."

Pfeiffer played the role of Catwoman in the 1992 film Batman Returns. Much later, in 2018, she joined the MCU as Janet van Dyne in Ant-Man and the Wasp. She later reprised the role in Avengers: Endgame and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

Now, this interview with Deadline is not the first time the actress has opened up about the differences between working on DC and Marvel films. Previously, in an interview with Yahoo Entertainment, Pfeiffer opened up about the use of green screens while filming Ant-Man and the Wasp. The Madison actress shared that she initially struggled to understand the process.

"[Ant-Man and the Wasp] was a lot of green screen for me, and that was challenging. I would ask questions and the other actors would just go, 'It's OK, it'll be OK.' They'll just say, 'Trust us. It'll be OK,'"

While the actress has 3 Marvel movies to her name, she may have wanted to add another DC movie to her resume too.

Michelle Pfeiffer hoped for another DC movie

Michelle Pfeiffer was rumored to reprise her role as Catwoman in a standalone movie, as per The New York Times. However, the project never materialized. Looking back, though, the actress has shared that she would have been interested in reprising the role.

"I mean, that would be incredible. I was sad when that ended. I was just getting comfortable with everything that I had to deal with and beginning to have some fun with it, and then it was over," she told former Today co-anchor Hoda Kotb in 2019.

Pfeiffer was cast as Catwoman after Annette Bening, who was originally selected for the role, had to leave the project due to her pregnancy. And, safe to say, Pfeiffer was iconic as Catwoman. But unfortunately, the opportunity for her to reprise the role never came.
