After an epic sendoff in Logan (2017), no one thought that they would be seeing Hugh Jackman donning those adamantium claws again. But against all expectations, Jackman made a comeback as Wolverine in the 2024 film Deadpool & Wolverine, and that too, in a comic-appropriate get-up, serving that iconic look from the books after years of playing the character. However, there has been a recurring question about his future in the MCU due to his advancing age.

Recently, Jackman addressed his future as Wolverine beyond Avengers: Secret Wars.

Will Hugh Jackman ever hang up the claws?

For the first time in more than 20 years, a different actor portrayed Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine (2024), when the Man of Steel, Henry Cavill, unexpectedly appeared as "Cavillrine." However, Hugh Jackman is anticipated to carry on as the MCU's one and only James Howlett in Avengers: Doomsday.

But the main question is: when will he retire this time around? While the idea is that the Australian actor will pass the character on to someone else for Marvel Studios' X-Men remake and beyond, that is also doubtful now. In a new interview with PBS, Jackman firmly intimated that, as of right now, he's going nowhere.

"I'm 57. I'm doing it till I'm 90. So, you know, I'll do a little time capsule for them," he said about his plans for the future.

Based on these statements and other rumours, there's no reason to assume Hugh Jackman will not continue playing Wolverine heading into the MCU's next saga. Whether he will be down for a prominent part in another X-Men franchise and potential spin-offs remains to be seen. For now, Wolverine has a big role to play in the war with Doctor Doom.
