Ali G, the irreverent character created and played by Sacha Baron Cohen is heading back to the big screen. It was introduced in the late 1990s and was known for its exaggerated persona, satirical interviews and provocative comedy, which eventually led to the 2002 film Ali G Indahouse. Now, more than 20 years later, the character is returning with a new movie. 

The first trailer of the movie has officially dropped. It gives audiences a taste of what to expect when the film hits theaters, giving fans their first glimpse at Sacha Baron Cohen's return as the iconic comedy character. The new film, which is set to hit cinemas on October 23, is already garnering buzz.  

Sacha Baron Cohen is back in Ali G: Who Iz I?, the comedian's first time playing the character in nearly two decades. Cohen first debuted Ali G on Channel 4’s The 11 O’Clock Show, and the caricature was an instant hit. He later took the character to The Da Ali G Show and then to the 2002 movie Ali G Indahouse.

In this new movie, Ali G is shocked when he finds out that his girlfriend of 8 years, Julie, is pregnant. Suddenly he has a child to be responsible for and decides to leave his old ways behind and travel to America to try and get his former fame back. Unfortunately for him, those plans soon take a deadly turn when he finds himself in conflict with powerful enemies.

Having said that, fans are already wondering whether the character’s return can recapture the magic of the original. 

Fans recently reacted to the trailer on X, with responses highlighting concerns about the humor and whether the character’s comedy style still holds up today. One viewer said the current format of the movie does not hit the same way. Another gave a more critical perspective, saying the comedy depends too heavily on jokes about race and marginalized groups. Another one alleged that Hollywood is reportedly running out of ideas for movies. 

“He was very funny and popular to most boys, especially when I was a kid, but it doesn't really work now, not this format at least. Cunk on Earth I would say is the current "successor" to what Ali G did once, she is hilarious,” Anti-Terran commented. 

“Ah yes my favorite israeli humor where the character just makes fun of a race and just about every marginalized minority. Can’t wait!!!” MK commented. 

“So this is what we're doing in Hollywood: we're running out of ideas. I need to hurry up and send my script off because the movie is looking really bad right now,” Micheal said. 

On the other hand, the trailer was also met with a mixture of enthusiasm. Some viewers called it entertaining. Others suggested they would probably watch it. Another tagged it as the funniest trailer they have ever seen.
