Ryan Gosling has been in the spotlight lately with his latest film, Project Hail Mary, already in theaters and garnering much praise and acclaim. The movie, based on Andy Weir’s novel of the same name, follows a teacher-turned-astronaut, Ryland Grace, who wakes up alone in space with no memory of how he got there in the first place. The only thing he knows is that the fate of his planet rests on his shoulders.

The movie has got everybody talking about it with its interesting premise and clever execution. But the hype and discourse are not limited to the movie but have also reached Ryan Gosling’s private life, especially around his wife and children.

Ryan Gosling does have a wife, but she is not Mrs. Gosling. Ryan Gosling is married to Eva Mendes, a popular Hollywood actress. The couple met back in 2011 on the sets of The Place Beyond The Pines. Their romance blossomed from there, and they welcomed two children - Esmeralda Amada and Amada Lee. The couple never officially announced their wedding, but in 2022, they indirectly confirmed that they had married in secret.

Speaking about their kids, on September 12, 2014, Esmeralda Amada, the first child of Gosling and Mendes, was born in Santa Monica, California. For as long as possible, the couple kept their pregnancy a secret, and even after the birth of their firstborn, they refrained from posting her pictures. 

On April 29, 2016, the couple welcomed Amada Lee, their youngest daughter. The name Amada is actually taken from Mendes’ grandmother, which in Spanish means “beloved”. Both Gosling and Mendes have always maintained that they try to keep their daughters away from the spotlight. They also do not want to post their children’s pictures on social media unless they reach a certain age where they are aware of the consequences.

Ryan Gosling’s family is really a pillar of support for him, and he has even said in a recent interview that his wife and kids are one of the reasons he chose to do Project Hail Mary.

In an interview with Scary Mommy, Ryan Gosling stated that he and Eva Mendes are always looking for films they can watch together with their kids to spend time with them and bond with them in the process.

"Eva and I look for films like that, that we could go to with our kids. And there just aren't many," said Gosling. He thought Project Hail Mary was the kind of film that he could share with his family, which is why he said yes to the movie.

Mendes was, in fact, present at the New York City premiere of Project Hail Mary and later wrote in her social media post that she fell in love with not only Gosling’s character but also his extraterrestrial co-star. She jokingly implied that she was jealous of the alien as her husband spent a lot of time with the CGI-created creature. Project Hail Mary continues to impress the audience and has won big just in previews. The movie will only hit milestones from here on.
