A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms brings fans back to Westeros, but this time to a much quieter corner of the realm, which is far from the battles for the throne, the scheming of plots, and the blood-soaked wars we know from Game of Thrones. Instead, it explores the more human side of Westeros, focusing on friendship, loyalty, and honor, based on George R.R. Martin’s beloved tales of Dunk and Egg.

While dragons and epic battles are absent, the series is still connected to the Game of Thrones universe, which leaves viewers wondering if they need to catch up on previous prequels before watching the new series.

Much time after Game of Thrones and its other prequels, such as House of the Dragon, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms arrives with huge anticipation. All three series are connected by the events happening in Westeros, but each takes place at a different time. The new series is set nearly 9 decades before the events of Game of Thrones and about 80 years after the time set in House of Dragons, making it old enough to be a standalone but trickled with enough Game of Thrones lore to serve as a good binge-watch for the franchise's fans.

  Since the stories are set in the same world, based on the same history, and also filmed at the same locations, watching both Game of Thrones and House of Dragons might be helpful to understand Easter eggs or the history of Westeros. The die-hard fans of the franchise might be able to identify a few names from the previous series in the new show as some of the names from Game of Thrones do appear in the new series.

Given the time gap, it is highly unlikely that characters from Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon will appear in the new series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which is based on The Hedge Knight. However, fans may still recognize the name Targaryen. The Targaryens continue to rule the realm in this series, which follows the hedge knight Ser Duncan 'Dunk' the Tall and his squire, Egg.

The 10-year-old Egg in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is actually Prince Aegon V Targaryen, who is the fourth son of Prince Maekar Targaryen, and the youngest grandson of King Daeron II Targaryen. Disguised as a commoner, he travels with Dunk. As fans know, he later goes on to inherit the Iron Throne, becoming 'Aegon the Unlikely.'

So while watching the weekly episodes of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, viewers may feel tempted to revisit Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon. That said, this new series, which focuses on ordinary people rather than politics, can be enjoyed on its own.
