Disney has tapped Michael Montemayor, the writer on the live-action Tangled, to pen a brand new Medusa movie based on the snake-haired figure of Greek myth. The source material has been around for thousands of years. Hollywood has a long history of dusting off ancient legends and handing them a generous studio budget. This latest project arrives with a familiar producer attached, and a lead character who needs no introduction.

While Perseus needed nerve to face Medusa, Disney just needed a screenwriter, and the details on the project are worth a closer look.

Montemayor’s Tangled rewrite, directed by Michael Gracey, reaches theaters on March 31, 2028, while Stepsisters and the Netflix sale Court Date keep his slate busy.

Season 1 premiered on March 5, 2025, and climbed to the top of Netflix’s global chart for non-English series. Season 2 arrived on September 30, 2026, and Netflix positioned it as the final chapter. Critics were less generous, with an IMDb rating around 5.3, and viewers in Colombia criticized how non-local actors handled the Caribbean accent. Disney’s big-screen Medusa now has a streaming namesake to outstare once it arrives.
