The world of Descendants is getting even bigger. Disney has officially greenlit Hidden Heroes: A Descendants Story, a brand-new spinoff movie that shifts the spotlight away from the children of famous heroes and villains and onto a group that has largely remained in the background: the children of Disney's iconic sidekicks. The project marks the latest expansion of the hugely successful franchise and introduces a fresh generation of characters inspired by some of Disney's most beloved supporting players.

While previous films focused on the children of characters such as Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Cinderella, and the Queen of Hearts, Hidden Heroes takes a different approach by exploring the next generation of the loyal friends, helpers, and companions who often played crucial roles in Disney's classic stories, specifically their children and the legacies they inherit.

According to Disney, Hidden Heroes will introduce a new group of descendants connected to some of Disney's most beloved sidekicks. The cast includes Dior Goodjohn as Jennie, the daughter of Genie from Aladdin; Momona Tamada as Zara, the daughter of Yzma from The Emperor's New Groove. Jacob Rodriguez as Kronk Jr., the son of Kronk; Eva Fossaceca Smedley as Meri, the daughter of Merryweather from Sleeping Beauty; and Harry Jones as Lou, the son of Lumiere from Beauty and the Beast.

Together, the group will step into the spotlight as they navigate the unique expectations that come with their famous family legacies.  The project is now locked in and scheduled to go into active production next week, with Jude Weng officially attached as director and a finalized script written by Tamara Chestna, Eydie Faye, and Emma Fletcher, as per Disney's press release. The project arrives as Disney continues to build on the renewed momentum of the franchise following Descendants: The Rise of Red and the recent summer release of Descendants: Wicked Wonderland, which together have expanded the franchise into a new era of storytelling.

By shifting the focus to the children of iconic Disney sidekicks and introducing a setting centered around the secret training facility Sidekick Academy, Disney is opening up a broader corner of the Descendants world with fresh narrative possibilities.

Disney has described Hidden Heroes as "A Descendants Story," placing it alongside recent efforts to expand the franchise beyond its original focus on the children of Disney villains. The standalone approach allows the studio to introduce new characters and settings while remaining connected to the larger world fans already know.

The announcement also underscores Disney's confidence in the Descendants brand more than a decade after the first film premiered. With The Rise of Red, Wicked Wonderland, and now Hidden Heroes, the franchise continues to evolve into a broader shared universe, proving there are still plenty of stories left to tell within Disney's next generation of characters.
