Disney Ends 2025 With a Bang, Breaks All Time Box Office Record With 'Zootopia 2'

Who needs superhumans when a fox and a bunny can reign supreme at the box office in a tentpole-packed year of cinema? Disney's Zootopia 2 has not just broken the sequel curse but achieved incredible new feats, even dethroning the studio's regnant queen, Elsa.

Walt Disney Animation’s latest mammoth feature became a 2025 favorite for not only families and kids but also adults in general, winning them over with ease. It shattered every box-office record in 2025, proving movies full of heart, humor, and vibrant world-building can still rewrite theatre history, despite being in a streaming-heavy era.

But just which record has this animated sequel broken so far?

Zootopia 2 earns major box office triumph for Disney

Right from its release on November 26, 2025, Zootopia 2 has hit unfathomable heights with $1.46 billion at the global box office. Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde did not just chase Gary De'Snake but also records, as it has now become the highest-grossing film ever by Walt Disney Animation Studios.

With a box office performance that has rewritten the legacy of Disney’s animation once more, the animated movie has cashed in enough to supersede Frozen II. The previous record of about $1.45 billion was set by Frozen II, which the fox-bunny buddy cop duo finally thawed after six years, with the new Zootopia chapter.

Zootopia 2 garnered $333 million domestically and $1.13 billion overseas. During the Christmas holiday weekend, it added $87.9 million to its total in its fifth week of release. The movie also broke some of its own records by being the fastest PG-rated animated feature to reach $1 billion and doing so in just 17 days after its release.

One of the main reasons behind the big success of the sequel was its international sales, especially in places like China, where it raked in more than $500 million. Though Zootopia 2 is on top of the list of Disney Animation films now, it still trails the Chinese film Ne Zha 2 and Pixar Inside Out 2 in terms of their respective global box office revenue of $2.2 billion and $1.698 billion. With quite a remarkable win for Hollywood animation, the Zootopia sequel proves a global appetite for it, now aiming at streaming records.
