'Disclosure Day' Puts Steven Spielberg’s Theatrical Star Power to the Test Following a Modest $12 Million Global Opening

Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day has been one of the most highly anticipated movies of the year. The acclaimed director returns to the world of extraterrestrial life with a star-studded cast featuring Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colman Domingo and perhaps the most awaited of all, a clad in millions, blockbuster opening .
If its early box-office performance is any indication, Disclosure Day may meet and perhaps even exceed those expectations that audiences attach to a Spielberg movie.
Disclosure Day makes millions on Day 1

As per Deadline, Disclosure Day earned approximately $12 million globally on its first day of release. Of that total, around $6 million came from domestic preview screenings, which began at 2 p.m. on Wednesday. The film garnered $6 million on its opening day across international markets.
And the movie is yet to open in China and Spain. As per sources, it is expected to fetch $65 million worldwide and $35 million in domestic markets. The film’s $1.2 million Wednesday debut in the UK and Ireland held the No. 1 spot with a strong 36% market share across 650 locations. By its third day, Disclosure Day is set to expand to 720 theaters, making it the widest release of Spielberg’s career in the market.
The movie has earned 82% Certified Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes. Moreover, the film is massively appreciated by the critics. So, if this is to go by, Disclosure Day will make more in the days ahead.
But what is intriguing is whether Disclosure Day surpasses Spielberg’s movie is something that remains to be seen.
Could Disclosure Day make another record for Steven Spielberg?
Steven Spielberg is one of the most acclaimed filmmakers in cinema history and has enjoyed extraordinary commercial success throughout his career. Several of his films, including Jaws, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, and Jurassic Park, became global box-office phenomena and, at different points, held the title of the highest-grossing film of all time. Jaws earned $495 million worldwide, while E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and Jurassic Park grossed $797.3 million and $1.058 billion globally, respectively.

Given the immense anticipation surrounding Disclosure Day, the film has the potential to break records of its own and add another box-office record to Spielberg’s remarkable filmography. With strong early box-office numbers and glowing reviews, Disclosure Day is clearly off to a promising start. Whether it can join Spielberg’s legendary blockbuster ranks remains to be seen, but the signs are certainly encouraging.
