During a Q&A session in Los Angeles, Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer posed an intriguing question to Genki Kawamura about his storytelling approach in the film, Exit 8. Ross Duffer went on to ask how he finds a balance between what is explained to the audience and what is left open to interpretation. In response, Kawamura had a simple answer.

“I thought about the different tools that you have at your disposal. So music, of course, was a huge element of that, as well as the modern artwork that you saw at M. C. Escher different Optical illusions, as well as the story. All three of these follow the same moving instructor,” he said.

“So I definitely borrowed a lot of that kind of established know-how, and really leaned into it. So, the explanation would feel very, very minimal.”

The eerie story, Exit 8, is a video game adaptation that almost feels real. Just as the director describes, these elements create a cinematic experience that blurs the line between video game and movie. While the Duffer Brothers have already watched the movie, the rest will watch it when it arrives in theaters on April 10.
