With the first glimpse of Dune: Part Three unveiling a haunting 17-year time jump from the aftermath of Paul Atreides’ rise to power, the saga once again is set to pull its fandom back into the shifting sands of Arrakis. However, while the emotional weight of this new chapter lingers, it is the chilling first look at the newly added villain Scytale, portrayed by Robert Pattinson, that has truly seized attention. And The Batman actor has credited him being part of the franchise to none other than Zendaya, as Female First UK shared.

Set to be released on December 18, 2026, as the final chapter in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune trilogy, Dune: Part Three has already stirred casting speculation following its trailer unveiling in Los Angeles. For The Drama promotions, both Zendaya and Robert Pattinson sat with AlloCiné, where she addressed whispers about whether she had a hand in bringing Pattinson into the desert epic. The actress revealed that she did receive a call from Villeneuve asking what Pattinson was like. And while she spoke of him with nothing but admiration, she clarified that he was already the director’s choice, with the call simply part of a background check.
"I did get a call about, 'What's Rob like?' And I said, 'He's lovely!' I have nothing but great things to say, but he was already, I think Denis' choice. They were just doing their research to make sure you weren't a diva!," Zendaya said.
Earlier, Robert Pattinson himself had playfully credited Zendaya for his entry into Dune: Part Three, recalling that while working together on The Drama, he casually asked if he could be part of the franchise. The actor, who has watched the earlier films multiple times, shared that Zendaya jokingly said she “knew a guy,” a moment that sparked speculation, though his casting as Scytale was already in motion long before the exchange.
Meanwhile, Pattinson also recently shared that the director, Villeneuve, had praised his unrecognisable look in the film, further building anticipation around his transformation into Scytale.
As the speculation continues to ripple through the sands of Arrakis, here are the other cast members making their way into the desert for the final chapter.

As the final chapter of Dune: Part Three expands beyond its central conflict with the arrival of a new antagonist, the sands of Arrakis also welcome a wave of powerful new additions, with Anya Taylor-Joy stepping further into the role of Alia Atreides alongside Paul and Chani’s children, Leto II and Ghanima, marking the rise of a new generation within the desert empire.
The story then anchors itself back to its core, with Timothée Chalamet returning as Paul Atreides and Zendaya as Chani, joined by Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, and Javier Bardem as Stilgar, while Jason Momoa returns in a striking twist as Hayt, a ghola of Duncan Idaho.

Meanwhile, building on the success of Dune: Part Two, which won Oscars for Best Visual Effects and Best Sound in 2025, the final chapter returns with the same grand visual ambition. Shot on 65mm and 35mm film with select IMAX sequences, Dune: Part Three continues its sweeping, large-scale cinematic experience across Arrakis.
However, as the sands of Arrakis prepare to pull audiences back into their vast, visually striking world, Zendaya may have vouched for Robert Pattinson’s charm, but the decision was always Denis Villeneuve’s, already set long before the whispers began.
