In the realm of television Easter eggs, many moments transcend the screen. For
Friends fans, that moment came recently. In a genius sort of crossover, the
world got to see Selena Gomez’s Only Murders in the Building give the popular
NBC sitcom a nod. As the third season of the series saw Paul Rudd’s character,
Ben Glenroy, being murdered, the director paid his respects to the actor’s
career through various references.

However, it was the Friends one that caught everyone’s attention. The unexpected
easter egg not only showcased the singer’s subtle humor but also sparked joy for
those who appreciate the interconnected world of pop culture references.

FRIENDS EASTER EGG IN SELENA GOMEZ’S ONLY MURDERS IN THE BUILDING

Ever since the Hulu series came out three seasons ago, it has had the world
hooked. Now, the series seems to have reached out to another popular series
through references. At Paul Rudd’s character’s funeral in Only Murders in the
Building, Ben Glenroy made sure to bring in moments that paid respect to his
career. From Harry Styles reading his eulogy to a nod at his time as Mike “Crap
Bag” Hannigan, the episode was filled with easter eggs.

The Easter egg came in the form of a framed poster for a rom-com called
Hannigans’s Wedding Night. While some viewers may have missed it, there is no
doubt that all Friends fans immediately caught on. In the NBC series, Rudd
played the partner of Lisa Kudrow’s Phoebe Buffay. Although this unexpected
easter egg sent fans on a nostalgic trip, it was not the only easter egg in the
episode.

From Rudd’s SNL host to Ant-Man, and more, everything was given a nod. However,
while the episode had everyone taking a trip down memory lane, the finale was
what shocked everyone.

SELENA GOMEZ’S ONLY MURDERS IN THE BUILDING SEASON 3 FINALE

In the final episode of season 3, fans of Only Murders in the Building finally
got to see the murder of Ben Glenroy be brought to justice. With Selena Gomez’s
Mabel, Steve Martins’ Charles, and Martin Short’s Oliver not being seen as the
killers, the hunt for the killer was wide open. While fans had various theories
about who it could be, most of them ended up being wrong as they thought it was
Donna DeMeo.

Meanwhile, no one seemed to pay much attention to Donna’s son. It was Cliff
DeMeo who ended up shoving Paul Rudd’s Glenroy down the elevator shaft. With the
revelation coming out in the finale episode of the season along with a
cliffhanger, fans of the show will have to wait for the next season before they
see how the show plans to progress with the next murder investigation.
