What started as a hilarious translation from American football to British soccer slowly developed into a four-season-long Emmy-winning masterpiece that knows just how to hit every nerve. And with the release of Season 4 Episode 9, Ted Lasso seems to have hit a crucial nerve not just for the audiences but for its own core character, Mae, or Ms. Green.

The episode ended on the note that something has happened to Mae, whether that something is the character's demise has the viewers confused.

Set nearly three years after the events of Ted Lasso Season 3, the on going season marked the return of the coach to the UK and ultimately as coach to  Lady Greyhounds. While the season followed the team through countless hurdles, Episode 9 saw them overcome it all in the form of a big win following a crucial match. However, this took a sharp turn when, shortly after the celebration, the camera panned to Mae's seat only to find that she has collapsed.

While the episode never truly labelled it as 'death', DECIDER spoke with Ted Lasso star, Tanya Reynolds, who confirmed.

"When we found out that happened, I thought it was a joke,” Reynolds told DECIDER.

The actress told Decider that Episode 9, despite what unfolded, was special due to the fact that the actress who plays Mae, Annette Badland, truly got the time to shine with a pregame speech. With the tone of the episode and Reynolds' statements, while the chances are rare, Ted Lasso may still have a winning move up its sleeve, especially with Episode 10 yet to release.

With Mae's future still dangling in the air, viewers remain hopeful, not just for the character but also for the show, which had already ended once after Season 3.

The third season, which aired in 2023, was believed to be the end of Apple TV+'s Emmy-winning show Ted Lasso. However, lightning seemed to strike, and the show was back in business, leading fans to believe that lightning could strike for a second time in the form of a Ted Lasso Season 5. If Matt Cherniss' statement about Jason Sudeikis looking to jump into the next season soon is anything to go by, then it just might be true.

While the hopes are high, Apple TV+ has not officially renewed the series for a fifth season. Until Apple confirms a fifth season, the question of whether Ms. Green died remains as unanswered as the show's future.
