As much as Hollywood loves a narrative where rising stars choose blockbusters over prestige sequels, Inde Navarrette was never going to be cast in Heat 2. The star of Obsession found herself at the center of exactly that story, with rumors suggesting she might have passed on Michael Mann's Heat 2 for Marvel's Phase 6. While the buzz is obviously well-earned, some of the role-showering might have crossed the bounds of reality.
Rumors claimed Navarrette chose Marvel over Michael Mann. The truth is far less dramatic, and far more revealing, given that the X-Men reboot appointment did not really come at the cost of other offers, now clearly not Heat 2.

The producer of Heat 2 has clarified that Inde Navarrette was never offered a role in the 1995 crime film Heat's sequel, despite the internet mythology to the contrary. TheWrap exclusively reported that the actress had only a single meeting with director Michael Mann, which never advanced beyond that stage.
“It’s simply untrue,” Shane Salerno, executive producer of Heat 2, said, effectively stomping on the rumors. The made-up news escalated from early speculation about Navarrette meeting with Mann, snowballing into a narrative that she turned down the sequel to join Marvel's upcoming X-Men reboot.

The rumor, now laid to waste by Salerno's word with TheWrap, is, in fact, residue of Navarrette’s recent rise stemming from her acclaimed performance in Obsession, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2025 before a 2026 theatrical release. Not long after the film's raving success, her casting as Rogue in the X-Men reboot was officially revealed at Disney’s D23 event in August 2026. Alongside her are Sadie Sink as Jean Grey and Kit Connor as Cyclops.
The announcement ended weeks of speculation that initially pointed to Mystique. Other than that, her confirmed role for the time being includes a starring role in Invertigo, apart from the obviously intensified industry attention following her Marvel Phase 6 entry.
In hindsight, however, the success brought headlines, not job offers. The months after Obsession were surprisingly lean for Navarrette.
The acting drought after Obsession
Despite the success of Obsession, Inde Navarrette actually struggled to get any offers after getting done with the indie breakout.
“I didn’t work for a year and a half after Obsession,” she revealed to Complex later on.
“I was auditioning, I was doing everything, just nothing was sticking. I wanted to pay rent and I wanted to do things," the actress confessed. Arbitrarily, the actress picked up all sorts of odd jobs, doing possibly "everything I could," in her own words. She supported herself by streaming video games on a self-built PC and taking up dog-walking jobs while continuing to audition.

Regardless, while her Heat 2 associations are now confirmed to be just a hoax, fans have a whole Marvel phase 6 to look forward to. Navarrette’s casting as Rogue in the X-Men reboot, directed by Jake Schreier and planned for a 2028 release, marks more than just a pivotal moment in her career. It is proof of her resilience that took her from streaming and dog-walking to joining the MCU after a massive and deserved breakout. With the ensemble announced at D23, audiences can anticipate her debut in one of the most promising superhero films of the decade.
