A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms may have moved away from the bloodthirsty politics and wars of Game of Thrones, but that does not mean it is short on intense challenges. Episode 3 turns into a total whirlwind, both for the characters and for the viewers, after Dunk decides to confront Prince Aerion as he cruelly attempts to break Tanselle’s fingers over a puppet show.

But standing up to royalty comes at a price, and Dunk soon finds himself close to facing the brutal punishment of having all his teeth broken. With the episode ending on a major cliffhanger, will he make it out of this alive?

Soon after Dunk strikes Prince Aerionin in episode 3 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, who ends up with a loosened tooth, things take a turn. Dunk is ordered to have all his teeth broken as punishment. But just when things look their worst, his bald squire, Egg, steps into the room. Even though Dunk urges him to stay quiet, Egg speaks up and commands the guards to stop, revealing the shocking truth about his identity as a Targaryen prince.

Now, Dunk is spared from a brutal fate, much thanks to Egg’s intervention, but his troubles are far from over. He now faces accusations of kidnapping Egg, and as hinted at in the next episode, he is taken away by the guards. If the books are anything to go by, though, this first season is only the beginning of Dunk and Egg’s journey.

Still, plenty of challenges lie ahead for the two, as the next episode teases a Trial of Seven that could change things for Dunk.

What is Trial of seven?

As hinted in the teaser for Episode 4 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Prince Aerion, still furious after being kicked by Dunk, is shown to have invoked a Trial of Seven. For those unfamiliar with the tradition, it is a rare form of trial by combat where each side chooses seven champions to fight, believing the gods will reveal the truth through the outcome.

If the accused side wins, they are declared innocent. If they lose, the judgment stands, and it is final. Now, Dunk must find six men willing to stand beside him in this deadly trial and help him survive. Whether he can actually pull that off is something fans will have to wait until Episode 4 to find out.
