The action sequences in Spider-Man: Brand New Day have been widely praised for their grounded, practical style, especially the brutal hand-to-hand combat scenes featuring the ninjas of The Hand. Early rumors suggested that the film’s standout choreography was the work of Jackie Chan’s legendary stunt team, a claim that gained traction after Chan himself mentioned his involvement in interviews.
However, the film’s director has now stepped in to set the record straight.
Destin Daniel Cretton sets the record straight
In a recent interview with TheWrap, Destin Daniel Cretton addressed the speculation directly, stating that Jackie Chan’s stunt team did not work on the movie. He confirmed that while Chan did visit the set, the film’s action sequences were choreographed by Peng Zhang, a longtime collaborator shaped by the teachings of Brad Allan, a key figure in Chan’s stunt legacy.

Cretton explained to The Wrap that Zhang brought a Hong Kong-inspired approach to the film’s fight design, echoing the grounded martial arts style that defined Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Allan, who previously served as second unit director on that film, mentored Zhang, whose work continues that tradition through practical, street-level choreography.
The confusion began after Jackie Chan told Hong Kong outlet HK01 that his stunt team was busy filming Spider-Man and that he served as their action director. This statement led many to assume direct involvement in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Despite the misunderstanding, the film’s action has been widely praised for its visceral energy, wire-assisted techniques, and emphasis on real stunt work rather than heavy CGI.
While the action debate has now been settled, the future of Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to spark speculation.
What lies ahead for Spider-Man in the MCU
Even as Spider-Man: Brand New Day dominates headlines, the next chapter for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker remains uncertain. Current reports suggest that Holland is not part of the confirmed cast for Avengers: Doomsday, raising questions about when fans will see him next. Many expect his return to come in Avengers: Secret Wars, slated for December 2027, though rumors of a surprise appearance continue to circulate.

The film’s post-credits scene has only intensified the speculation. In the sequence, Ned’s Spider-Tracker app picks up a signal that expands beyond Queens, past Earth, and into deep space before locking onto a mysterious “location found” in the void. The moment ends with a stark message that Spider-Man will return.
Analysts have linked this tease to the larger multiverse narrative, particularly the concept of Battleworld, where heroes and villains from different realities are brought together. The cosmic scale of the scene suggests that Peter Parker could be pulled into another dimension, potentially separating him from the events of Avengers: Doomsday while setting up a major role in Avengers: Secret Wars. This direction aligns closely with the evolving scope of the MCU and hints at a much bigger stage for Spider-Man’s future.
