A family member of an original gang member has slammed ardent fans just days before the release of Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man. While there are concerns of Cillian Murphy hanging up his famous flat cap for good after this movie, the great-grandson of an original gang member feels that fans ought to quit pretending to be Peaky Blinders in real life.
Social historian Professor Carl Chinn's great-grandfather, Edward Derrick, belonged to one of the first Peaky Blinder gangs. Being a descendant of the Peaky Blinders, he finds it unimpressive when people dress up as criminals and treat them as role models. He is concerned that while replicating their style and suits, they are celebrating their brutal and unjust mannerisms. Well, his feelings are not completely wrong, as the real history of the gang has been quite different from what is portrayed on screens.
“Because of the cultural approach so many people have taken. They’re ignoring the violence, the racism, the bullying, the s----- assaults of the real Peaky Blinders which I’ve studied in detail,” Chinn told LadBible. According to him, the majority of the actual Peaky Blinders were impoverished males who were either unskilled laborers working irregular jobs or street vendors trying to make a few bucks.
Chinn added, "There is this attraction towards glamorized gangsterism, which is not a reality".
His criticisms aside, there are still more projects from the franchise that will soon follow due to the heavy fan base of the show.
The next for the Peaky Blinders franchise
The Immortal Man is not the only project from the world of Peaky Blinders, as there is also a sequel series in the works. This 1950s-set sequel series, which has started filming in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, will add a fresh chapter to the story of the Shelbys. The project has been carried out under an undisclosed title. It will undoubtedly play a significant role in the Peaky Blinders universe, though.
The story takes place in 1953 in Birmingham, which was severely damaged during WWII and is now utilizing concrete and steel to build a better future. This gives them the chance to take charge of Birmingham's massive reconstruction project, and the race becomes a fierce conflict. The unmatched potential and danger of this city will be something the Shelby family has to take control of in this series.
