Delroy Lindo Breaks His Silence After BAFTA Slur Incident with Message of Gratitude
The BAFTA Awards are meant to be a night of celebrating cinema and talent. However, this year’s event made headlines for the wrong reasons. During the ceremony, John Davidson, a Tourette's syndrome activist, involuntarily shouted racial slurs while Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo were presenting an award on stage, and it quickly became a huge controversy. After both BAFTA and Davidson issued apologies for the incident, many people have also stepped forward to show their support for the actors.
In stepped the NAACP ceremony, and one Regina Hall, who gave a standing ovation to be given to Lindo and Jordan, showering them with support. And in turn, Delroy Lindo has taken a moment to express his gratitude.

During the same NAACP Awards ceremony, Delroy Lindo took to the stage alongside director Ryan Coogler to present an award as the crowd erupted in cheers and a second standing ovation. Speaking of the heartwarming gesture, the Sinners actor expressed his gratitude and briefly addressed the BAFTA incident.
“Before we start, I’d just like to officially say, we appreciate, I appreciate, we appreciate all the support and the love that we have been shown in the aftermath of what happened last weekend,” the actor said. According to him, the incident, which was for a moment being shunned, might have become something even more revered.
“It’s a classic case of something that could be very negative becoming very positive," Lindo said, adding to his speech.
The incident, on the other hand, caused massive chaos over the past weekend. John Davidson, who was present for I Swear, even had to explain his embarrassment to the public. In an interview with Variety, he apologised for the havoc created by his audience-wide audible ticks and questioned why he had been seated so close to a microphone.
What stirred the pot is how the BBC included the moment in its tape-delayed broadcast, even though it could have been removed. This came despite a request from Sinners studio Warner Bros. to cut the segment. Unfortunately, Google’s AI content-generation system also ended up issuing a notification that linked to a Hollywood Reporter article about the controversy.
While Google has also apologized for the mistake, several came to hold the actors up on social media. As for the event, Regina Hall was not the only one to show her support.
Wave of support pours in for Delroy Lindo, Michael B. Jordan and Sinners cast
After the standing ovation for Delroy Lindo and Michael B. Jordan, comedian Deon Cole, who was hosting the event, also appeared to indirectly address the controversy
“Lord, if there are any white men out here in the audience with Tourette’s, I advise you to tell them they better read the room tonight,” he said. Later, Abbott Elementary star Quinta Brunson took a moment to show her support for the Sinners’ cast for the brilliant movie.

Rising from the ashes of the controversy, and even before it was embroiled in it, Lindo Delroy, Michael B. Jordan, filmmaker Ryan Coogler, and the film itself, Sinners has prevailed over the 2026 awards season. While the movie put forth vampiric purgatories, it is known to have given the horror genre, as well as the beloved community creating it, a power over prestige never before seen.
