David Ellison unveils the new name of the combined Paramount-Warner Bros. company: Skydance. Paramount is on the precipice of making new history after a long, hard-fought battle to acquire Warner Bros. A lot of hurdles came along the way, but Paramount’s ambition to make the biggest merger in Hollywood’s history possible never wavered. This resulted in the formation of a mega consolidated entity that will have the most iconic set of IPs, streaming platforms, and broadcast networks.
Now, as Paramount leaves the chaos behind and embraces its victory, CEO David Ellison gives this win a new name.
David Ellison announces the new name for the newly merged company
Following the massive corporate merger uniting Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery, chairman and CEO David Ellison has confirmed that the newly formed entertainment giant will simply be called Skydance. Ellison said on X (Twitter) on Friday that the new corporate brand will adopt the name of the studio he created twenty years ago once Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery merge. Warner Bros. and Paramount will function as sub-brands, even though that will be the corporate name.
“Paramount and Warner Bros. shaped over a century of culture. By combining them, we aren’t rewriting history – we’re equipping these iconic studios with a more powerful engine. Together, we are Skydance: a creative-first home for bold, quality storytelling,” Ellison wrote.

Explaining the decision behind the rebrand, Ellison noted in his X post that the choice was designed to establish a distinct corporate identity without detracting from the company's powerhouse legacies. He emphasized that the leadership never wanted a new parent title to diminish, alter, or overshadow either historic studio. Instead, the goal was to provide the combined organization with an independent identity while ensuring that Paramount, Warner Bros., and their extraordinary lineup of brands remain front and center in the spotlight.
Set to officially close on October 6, the multi-billion-dollar deal merges two of Hollywood's historic film studios, the Paramount+ and Max streaming platforms, and a massive television portfolio featuring CBS, CNN, MTV, TBS, Comedy Central, and the Food Network. The combined powerhouse now controls an unrivaled stable of iconic franchises, including Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, the DC Universe, Yellowstone, Mission: Impossible, Top Gun, and the expansive Nickelodeon library.
The merger, though, comes bearing huge debts for Paramount, which will make things a little tricky for the newly formed entity.
Paramount-Warner Bros. merger comes on the heels of massive debt
Following the merger, the newly formed Skydance will inherit a staggering financial burden, with projected debt climbing north of $80 billion after absorbing the accumulated liabilities of both Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery alongside fresh financing. To fund the transaction and clear legacy obligations, Paramount is issuing roughly $42.4 billion in bonds, supplemented by $8.5 billion and €850 million (approx. $959 million) in new loans. Control of the massive conglomerate will rest with David Ellison, his billionaire Oracle founder father Larry Ellison, and RedBird Capital Partners founder and managing partner Gerry Cardinale.

To finance the massive Warner Bros. acquisition, Oracle billionaire Larry Ellison has personally guaranteed an astounding $46.7 billion in equity financing. Additionally, Paramount has secured roughly $24 billion in financial commitments from the sovereign wealth funds of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. According to corporate filings, these three Middle Eastern investment funds will collectively hold a 38.5% ownership stake in the newly merged entity.
