The Spy Kids stars Daryl Sabara and Alexa PeñaVega celebrated the 25th anniversary of the movie by posing with their respective yellow and red spy kid suits, which sent seismic waves of nostalgia across social media. During the Texas Film Awards, the 2001 film directed by Robert Rodriguez, which became a worldwide success and went on to develop into a four-movie franchise, marked its silver jubilee with Sabara and PeñaVega exchanging fun moments, and paying homage to the production, which kick-started their professional journeys.

Sabara and PeñaVega shared their personal accounts and recollections from the movie, recalling how practical props and stunts became one of their fondest moments on the movie. PeñaVega also walked viewers through a break-dance room they had on set for all the kids to have unhinged fun. The duo shared an emotional exchange reflecting on the impact of each other in their respective lives.

"We really are brother and sister. Our lives kind of oddly mirror each other in a weird way. We both have three kids. We're both married to pop stars. We didn't plan this. We didn't talk about it. It just kind of happened that way. [...] Every time in parenthood and every time we talk it feels like it feels like yesterday," Sabara and PeñaVega told Countdown City Geeks at the 25th anniversary event of the movie.

The reunion also served as a reminder of how much the film meant to a generation and how the actors have maintained their friendship throughout the years. For many viewers, Spy Kids functioned as more than just a children's film since it provided an imaginative entryway that led to exciting adventures and family narratives blending thrill and emotional depth.
