The footage offers a glimpse into the next phase of Jason Dessen's journey after the dramatic events of Season 1. What makes the new season particularly intriguing is that it moves beyond the source material. This creates an interesting contrast with the first season, which largely adapted Blake Crouch's novel.
Season 2 explores new territory created specifically for the series, meaning even longtime readers will be heading into unfamiliar territory.
Cast, trailer & what to expect from Dark Matter Season 2
Most of the principal cast is returning for the new season, including Joel Edgerton as Jason Dessen, Jennifer Connelly as Daniela Dessen, and Alice Braga as Amanda. Jimmi Simpson as Ryan, Dayo Okeniyi as Leighton, Oakes Fegley as Charlie, and Amanda Brugel as Blair will also be part of Dark Matter season 2. Blake Crouch also remains heavily involved as creator, writer, and showrunner.
The recently released trailer suggests that life will not remain peaceful for the Dessen family for long. After seemingly finding safety, Jason becomes increasingly obsessed with the Box, while Daniela grows suspicious of the reality around her. At the same time, Amanda and Ryan continue searching for a way home, and Leighton pursues his ambitious vision of creating a perfect world.
