All eyes have been glued to Wicked: For Good, not only because it completes the saga of a much-loved iconic musical, but also highlights the strong relationship between Elphaba and Glinda. Besides the sensational performances by Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, their on-and-off-screen friendship also got the world hooked.

Overall, the film's depiction of variegated emotions has become a point of discussion as much as its incredible visuals and music. However, one moment in particular that has captivated viewers the most is the tender whispers between the two leading characters in the movie. 

The secret linking the characters' storyline to the actors' real-life interaction is now under Cynthia Erivo's protection. 

Glinda whispers a secret to Elphaba at the end of Wicked: For Good, and thanks to Cynthia Erivo, nobody will ever know what it is. To the question as to what Glinda whispers to Elphaba in the concluding minutes of the film, Erivo firmly and clearly declined to disclose it, stressing the moment’s intimacy. 

Erivo, in a chat with Variety, said she would never reveal to anyone what the discussion was. She indicated that the phrase was not just movie-related but also linked to her and Ariana Grande’s personal rapport. 

"I’m never telling anyone. It is movie-related, I suppose, what she said to me, but it’s also us related as well," quoth Erivo while answering the outlet.

Meanwhile, Ariana Grande has also kept it a secret. But then comes the film’s director, Jon M. Chu, who dropped a trail of breadcrumbs about what went down behind planting that agonizing whisper as a secret.

Give up the fight already, because no one was ever meant to hear what Glinda whispered to Elphaba.

Speaking with Today, Jon M. Chu has supported Cynthia Erivo's decision, asserting that the film intentionally keeps the whispering line as a secret and subject to different interpretations. He maintained that only he, besides the actresses themselves, knew what was actually said. 

Chu lightheartedly told the outlet that they could even have lied about it, and he will not disclose that either. Meanwhile, Erivo interjected, saying, "I think it's why this movie feels the way it feels, because there are so many really beautifully intimate, sweet, private moments that you end up watching on the screen." 

Chu explained to Variety that the plan was always to end Wicked: For Good with the whisper to enhance the film's emotionally transformative experience. He said Universal was convinced to use it for marketing, but he would not budge.

The director went on to reveal that the studio never saw the final shot because the intention was to make the grand reveal in the film feel surprising. Chu told the outlet, "But it’s sort of the key to friendship. That we have these secrets," something which resonates with Cynthia Erivo's stance on keeping it all a poetic secret.
