Crystal Lake may be coming decades after the first movie of the Friday the 13th franchise premiered; rather than continuing the story, the series goes back to the beginning. It finally explains the story behind one of horror's most famous k******. And trust that it is going to be good, as the Tomatometer ratings for the upcoming Peacock series stand at an 86% Tomatometer score from 28 early reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Rotten Tomatoes score for Crystal Lake is significant given that it is the first project from the franchise to touch such heights. The original Friday the 13th movie itself stands at a 48% Tomatometer score and a 60% Popcornmeter score, with almost all the movies that followed coming under a 50% score on the Tomatometer.
Behind the numbers sits a story that horror fans have waited more than four decades to see told properly.
What is Peacock's Crystal Lake about?
Created and showrun by Brad Caleb Kane, Crystal Lake rewinds the clock to before the events of the 1980 original and centres on Pamela Voorhees, played by Linda Cardellini. The story picks up with Pam as a single mother still consumed by grief after her sickly young son, Jason, drowned in the town lake almost a year earlier.
The tragedy that kicks off the entire franchise is the starting point here, not the destination. The series is set in the 1970s and follows Pam’s descent into madness after Jason’s drowning.

The mystery begins when two strangers arrive at Pam’s door digging into her past, setting off a disturbing chain of events that leaves the people of Crystal Lake asking who Pam Voorhees really is. Callum Vinson plays young Jason, while William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins and Gwendolyn Sundstrom round out the main cast. With all eight episodes streaming on Peacock from October 15, Crystal Lake now has the chance to back up its record-high Tomatometer score with the kind of staying power the franchise has built over decades.
