As much as it may sting the fans, Chris Evans just flipped on Captain America, picking Team Iron Man when talking about sides. Steve Rogers is a character that stands for the core ideals of liberty and justice. More than his powers as Captain America, it is his firm belief in his ideals that makes him so appealing to the masses. In Captain America: Civil War, for instance, he goes against half the members of his own team just to stand with what he thinks is right, and his conviction incited many to follow.

But Chris Evans, who plays this inspirationally noble character, has abandoned the First Avenger and taken a stance that directly goes against the star-spangled hero's belief system.

Miss Marvel star Iman Vellani and The Basement Yard host Frank Alvarez are currently hosting a podcast series, Countdown to Avengers: Doomsday, and the most recent episode, aired on September 10, was about Captain America: Civil War. While deciding between Team Captain America and Team Iron Man, the hosts went to the man himself, Chris Evans, to learn his stance on the whole debate. And surprisingly, his pick was beyond anyone’s imagination.

“Me personally, I might be team Iron Man. I know that's probably controversial to say,” said the Captain America actor.

Although it may seem odd coming from the man who portrayed Steve Rogers for so long, Evans has actually been on Team Iron Man for quite a long time before his Countdown to Avenger: Doomsday confession. When Civil War was first released, he held a similar opinion. Evans was asked whose side he would support in a real-life situation like this during a press conference in London. His response was really straightforward.

"I mean, who wouldn't?" Evans stated while outlining his reasons for supporting government accountability and siding with Iron Man (via Vulture).

However, Evans did mention once that the aim of the movie is not to prove a side right or wrong; rather, there usually is no right or wrong. 

Notably, Chris Evans has already clarified that Captain America: Civil War was never intended to present viewers with a clear hero and villain. Speaking at the Salt Lake Comic Con in September 2015, prior to the film's premiere, he said that the plot revolved around a dispute in which both parties had valid points.

"This is a tough thing. This is what made it so interesting while we were filming, and it's hopefully what will make the movie great is nobody's right, nobody's wrong," he said.

"There's no clear bad guy here. We both have a point of view, which is akin to most disagreements in life and politics," Evans further explained. 

The timing of Evans' most recent remarks adds to the intrigue of the situation. The actor is making a significant reappearance as Steve Rogers in Avengers: Doomsday, a role that many fans believed they had said goodbye to following Avengers: Endgame. Fans are already curious about Steve's position and where his allegiances will lie in the new film, which brings together a sizable cast of Marvel heroes.
