Comedian Learnmore Jonasi has walked away unscathed after South African singer Lebo M dropped his massive $27 million The Lion King defamation lawsuit against him. What began as a lighthearted moment on a podcast soon spiraled into something far bigger than either party anticipated. A federal judge in Los Angeles officially dismissed the lawsuit Lebohang Morake, known professionally as Lebo M, filed against Learnmore Jonasi in March. The case centered on Jonasi's comedic retelling of "Nants' ingonyama bagithi Baba," the chant that opens The Lion King's "Circle of Life." Jonasi jokingly translated the line as "Look, there's a lion. Oh, my God," a far cry from Morake's own translation praising the arrival of a king. Judge Josephine Staton confirmed both parties agreed to a voluntary dismissal, clearing the path for Jonasi to pursue attorneys fees under California's anti-SLAPP statute.

Morake had accused Jonasi of presenting his joke as factual translation rather than stand-up material, arguing it damaged the legacy of his work and his ongoing ties to Disney, including his contributions to Mufasa: The Lion King. Jonasi, meanwhile, filmed himself getting served with legal papers mid-performance at The Laugh Factory and later launched a GoFundMe to cover mounting expenses. He even sold T-shirts reading "Look, it's a Lawsuit. Oh, my God," turning the entire ordeal into an unexpected marketing moment for his own career.

As Jonasi celebrates his courtroom win, Disney fans have their eyes fixed on a much bigger question involving the franchise itself.

Reports from early 2025 suggest Disney has another live-action The Lion King project quietly taking shape, though nothing has been officially confirmed. Industry insider Daniel RPK indicated the studio is looking beyond Mufasa: The Lion King, with speculation pointing toward an adaptation of The Lion King II: Simba's Pride. The franchise has proven to be a reliable box office powerhouse for Disney, with the 2019 live-action The Lion King crossing well over a billion dollars worldwide. Mufasa: The Lion King also performed strongly in theaters, reinforcing why Disney would want to keep expanding this universe.

Since Mufasa: The Lion King already introduced Kiara, voiced by Blue Ivy Carter, The Lion King II: Simba's Pride adaptation would give her story room to grow on the big screen. Earlier plans for a sequel directed by Barry Jenkins reportedly shifted once Mufasa: The Lion King moved forward instead.
